The Bravo Group, a US Hispanic communications agency, has promoted Yvonne Montanino to AD, Strategic Planning & Research. Montanino joined Bravo in 2002 as the lead Strategic Planner for the AT&T Wireless account. Since then, she has had account planning leadership responsibilities for USPS, Jim Beam, Mazda, Novartis and Blockbuster. Prior to Bravo, she gained more than ten years' experience on the client and consulting side. In her new role, Montanino will be responsible for identifying consumer and product insights and trends, as well as managing the design and analysis of all market research.
Hispanic Publishing announced Tuesday that Joe Vidueira will become the new editor of Hispanic Magazine (English, monthly, circ. 290,000) as of August 1. He will succeed Carlos Verdecia.
Verdecia, who has been at Hispanic Magazine's helm for the last six years, previously launched and edited Newsweek en español and El Nuevo Herald. He led Hispanic to several national awards. Vidueira, who has been managing editor at Hispanic since 2003, has held several other positions at Hispanic Publishing, which publishes the magazine. From 2001-2003, he was editor of Hispanic Trends, a national business glossy that is also produced by Hispanic Publishing; and since 2001 he has served as the editor of HispanicOnline.com, the company's web portal. Before joining Hispanic Publishing, Vidueira wrote for such publications as the Palm Beach Post, Fort Lauderdale¹s Sun-Sentinel and People magazine. He is a former editor at Vista, a Sunday newspaper magazine for Hispanic Americans.
The company also announced Tuesday that Elizabeth Arango has been named the Hispanic magazine's marketing manager. Arango has been a sales and marketing manager for Editorial Televisa titles National Geographic and Cristina La Revista. She has been with Editorial Televisa for four years.
Essence magazine named Angela Burt-Murray as its new Editor-in-Chief and only the fourth woman to do so in the publication's 35-year old history. She is succeeding Diane Weathers, who retired in March from the position. Angela previously worked at the magazine as fashion and beauty features editor from 1998 to 2001. Her current position is with Teen People magazine as executive editor. Angela will begin her new responsibilities at Essence as of August 8.
