Dothan, Alabama this week welcomed a new Spanish-language radio station, Poder 700 (WCNF) to serve the growing Hispanic population of the city.
Wiregrass Radio of Dothan announced that Poder 700 (am) will not only entertain but also educate Latinos in the area.
“Several factors came in to play when we decided to put a Hispanic format on the air,” said Ricky Carter, owner of Poder 700, in an interview with a local TV station. “If [Hispanics] get information, its from several different sources but they don’t have a voice on the radio.”
Alabama is among the U.S. states with the fastest-growing Latino population in the country. According to 2012 figures, the Alabama Hispanic population has experienced a nearly 150 percent increase in the last decade.
