Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced the appointment of Michael T. Rodriguez to the position of vice president and general manager of the Univision and TeleFutura affiliates in Miami.  This announcement was made today by Kevin Cuddihy, president, Univision Television Group.

“Michael’s expertise in Hispanic media is second to none, and we plan to tap into that experience as well as the total power of the Univision Network in order to continue to grow in the Miami market,” said Cuddihy.  “Michael began his career – most of which has been spent in Miami – at Univision Radio and we are very excited for his homecoming.”

In addition to being a strong affiliate for the Univision Network, including a strong primetime line-up of hit novelas, drama and unscripted programming that regularly outperforms the English-language competition throughout the year, WLTV Univision 23 Miami is the choice of Hispanics in South Florida for local news, weather and sports information.  The top producer of Spanish-language local news in the market, boasting 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts that in 2011 were watched by more Adults 18-49 than the local CBS and NBC affiliates combined, the station won six Emmys last year for its special reports.  In addition, WAMI TeleFutura 69, which will also fall under Rodriguez, has the only Spanish-language local newscast in the 7 a.m. hour, extending WLTV Univision 23’s local morning news coverage (5 a.m. to 7 a.m.) that provides vital information to the South Florida community.

Rodriguez comes to Univision from Telemundo, where he was executive vice president of Development, Distribution and Broadcast Operations, and before that, senior vice president of Network Sales and Marketing since 2007.  Prior to this, from 2002 to 2007, he was vice president and general manager of WSCV-TV in Miami. From 1997 to 2002 he was Local Sales manager at WFOR-TV (CBS) in Miami.  He began his career in 1992 as local account executive for Univision Radio in Miami.
