Based in Miami, he will report to senior vice president and executive director of News at Univision, Daniel Coronell.
Media Company Univision News, has announced that Spanish journalist Borja Echevarría de la Gándara (photo) has been appointed vice president, Digital. He will be based in Miami and report directly to Daniel Coronell, senior vice president and executive director of News at Univision.
In his new role, Echevarría de la Gándara will direct strategy for Univision News’ digital platforms, including NoticiasUnivision.com and La Huella Digital (The Digital Footprint).He will also oversee the integration of digital and TV newsrooms, as well as participate in all editorial meetings, helping to establish editorial strategy across all platforms. In addition, he will be charged with creating a state-of-the-art data journalism unit for Univision News.
Borja is a veteran journalist with a distinguished career in his native Spain. He was recently deputy managing editor of El País, where between 2010 and 2014 he was responsible for digital content strategy and product development and played a key role in the newspaper’s highly successful transformation to digital. Upon graduating from Universidad Complutense de Madrid with a degree in Information Science, Echevarría de la Gándara began practicing journalism at El Mundo newspaper in 1995, moving up from reporter to online deputy editor in 2002. In 2007 he co-founded Soitu.es, an online news startup. In 2012, he became a Nieman-Berkman Fellow in Journalism Innovation at Harvard University.
