Aims to increase the number of Hispanic students. Hispanic print media advertising options increase substantially in Arkansas.

The University of Arkansas will invest U.S $300,000 on an advertising campaign aimed at increasing the number of black and Hispanic students on the Fayetteville campus.

The university says Little Rock-based firm Advantage Communications will handle the statewide media campaign, which is expected to involve radio, television and print ads.

Hispanics made up 2.1 percent of the student body at Fayetteville. Statewide, the Census says Hispanics make up 4.4 percent of the Arkansas population.

Booming Hispanic newspaper scene
Hispanic print media advertising vehicles available in Arkansas include La Prensa a Spanish-language weekly (circ. 41,000) published by Springdale, Arkansas, daily newspaper The Morning News.

The Arkansas-Democrat Gazette last spring launched the free Spanish-language weekly Noticias Libres.

The Arkansas-Democrat Gazette is published by Wehco Media out of Little Rock. Wheco Media is a family-operated company that also owns several Arkansas community papers as well as the Chattanooga Times Free Press in Tennessee.

Hola Arkansas
, a bilingual biweekly newspaper (Hispanic Media & Publishing & Co, circ. 15,00) published out of Little Rock and La Prensa del Noroeste de Arkansas (Ft. Smith) are other Arkansas Hispanic newspaper.

According to a recent U.S. census, Arkansas has the nation's fastest growing Hispanic population, with an estimated 50,000 Hispanics living in the northwest part of the state.
