Guillermo Sierra, Vme’s Chief Content Officer and Senior Vice President, is no longer with the company, Portada has learned. A native of Mexico City, Sierra was charged with programming and content strategy at the Spanish-language network since it launched in 2007.

Sierra’s departure comes only a few months after Carmen DiRienzo stepped down from her position as president and CEO. Di Rienzo continues to serve on the Board of Directors for Vme Media as an independent director, the company said at the time.

A spokesperson for Vme on Monday confirmed the departure of Sierra, but declined to offer more details, other than saying content and programming strategy is currently being handled by Doris Vogelmann, Vme’s director of programming.

Sierra, a former Televisa executive, was one of Vme’s key executives at launch. Soon after his appointment in late 2006, he embarked on a world wide tour securing content for the new network.

During his 5-plus-year tenure at V-me, Sierra helped secure partnerships and content deals with some of the most recognizable TV properties in the U.S., including the Food Network, The Rachel Ray Show, Billboard, National Geographic, Sesame Street and the BBC.

Since acquiring a majority control of Vme, Spanish media conglomerate Grupo Prisa has expressed its desire to play a more active role in the Spanish-language network. Late last year, upon the departure of DiRienzo, Vme announced the appointment of Alvaro Garnica, a Prisa veteran, to the new position of general manager, handling overall day-to-day responsibilities for the operations of the company.
