  • McDonald’s

McDonald’s Latin America and agency DPZ&T is marking the Big Mac’s 50th anniversary with a limited-edition Coca-Cola can designed as an homage to the burger’s storied recipe.The can will be delivered this week to influencers and brand lovers, who can then share their reaction on social media, using the hashtag #BigMacCan. DPZ&T also created a 49-second digital spot to announce the limited edition design, stating: “There are things everyone can do. And things only Big Mac Can do.”

 

  • Tony Roma’s®

Romacorp, Inc., the parent company of Tony Roma’s®, announces the opening of its newest restaurant, located in Arequipa, the second-largest city in Peru. The new location can be found on the third floor of the popular Mall Plaza Arequipa, a destination well-known for its wide range of brands, entertainment and cuisine, making it the number-one commercial center in the city. This is the second Tony Roma’s restaurant for franchisee Freddy Nossar of Inversones Gondomar SAC, who successfully launched the Tony Roma’s brand in Peru during 1994.“As the Tony Roma’s brand continues to expand both internationally and domestically, we have focused on key regions such as Latin America, in an effort to strengthen our presence throughout influential cities around the world,” said John Brisco, President Global Franchise of Romacorp, Inc.

 

 

  • Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz, the German automaker and a division of the German company Daimler AG, has kicked off a global media agency review, Adweek first reported. The review comes less than three months after hiring Publicis Groupe as its global agency network for creative and digital.  It is unclear if any of the global regions would be excluded. Mercedes-Benz spends more than US$1 billion on media advertising annually globally.
 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Revlon

Cosmetics brand Revlon has placed its´ global media account back into review after having consolidated with Mediacom less than a year ago. MediaCom will not  defend. Revlon spent US$420 million on advertising in 2016, according to Kantar Media.

 

 

 

  • Choice Hotels International

Choice Hotels International is partnering with Spanish hotel operator and franchiser Sercotel Hotels to expand into Spain and Latin America. Choice Hotels will also aim to create new opportunities for hotel development across Europe and Latin America through this new partnership. The two groups will bring Choice hotels managed by Sercotel’s management unit into these markets while adding select Sercotel properties to the Choice Hotels portfolio. Booking on ChoiceHotels.com and the Choice Hotels app will extend to these Sercotel properties. They will also participate in the Choice Priveleges loyalty program.The new Choice Hotels properties will join Sercotel’s approximately 150 hotels in Spain and 28 in Latin America.

Hilton  and Hotelaria Brasil announced the signing of a strategic development agreement for Hotelaria Brasil to initially develop five franchised Hampton by Hilton hotels in Brazil – marking the brand’s debut in the country. The announcement underscores Hilton’s commitment to expand throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, and reinforces the upper-midscale brand’s momentum with 139 openings worldwide in 2017, including Hampton hotels in the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay. As part of the agreement, the companies have confirmed the first hotel is scheduled to open in 2019 at Guarulhos Airport in Sao Paulo, Brazil.Expected to open in early 2019, the 160-room Hampton by Hilton Guarulhos Airport is located less than two miles from the airport. Hilton currently has a portfolio of more than 130 hotels and resorts open and welcoming travelers in the Caribbean and Latin America. The company is actively pursuing additional Caribbean and Latin American growth opportunities and currently has a robust pipeline of approximately 80 hotels throughout the region.

  • Azul

Azul announces that it will bring Paris – one of the most visited destinations in the world – closer to Brazilians. In partnership with the French carrier Aigle Azur, Azul will market nonstop flights from Sao Paulo – Viracopos (Brazil) to Paris (France) starting in July this year. With unparalleled connectivity at Viracopos airport, the largest domestic hub in Latin America by number of direct destinations, Azul customers from all over Brazil will benefit from a seamless travel experience to Paris and beyond.Azul and Aigle Azur are waiting for regulatory approvals to sign a codeshare agreement, which will allow both airlines to sell tickets jointly. The agreement will provide several benefits to customers, including the ability to issue a single boarding pass and to check baggage to the final destination. Aigle Azur flights are based at Orly Airport in Paris, the closest to city center, and will be operated with Airbus A330 aircraft with lay flat business class seats. With this agreement, Azul’s customers from all over the country that already fly from Viracopos to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Lisbon, will be able to fly to Paris.

  • OneClick

 

InfoSonics Corporation, which closed its merger with Cooltech Holding Corp. on March 12, 2018, announced the recent opening of its newest OneClick store located in the El Solar Shopping district in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  This represents OneClick’s sixth store in the country, and the Company plans to open seven more new stores in the coming year in different cities across Argentina.The Company’s OneClick stores offer not only the latest Apple products and approved accessories, but they also offer hardware and software technical service centers where customers can take their Apple equipment for repair and maintenance.

 

  • Hyatt Place

Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a franchise agreement for the 144-key Hyatt Place Aguascalientes with affiliates of Promotora Comercial Abadan, S.A. de C.V. The hotel will be managed by Grupo Hotelero Santa Fe, one of the most respected hospitality companies in the Mexican hotel industry. Upon its expected opening in 2019, Hyatt Place Aguascalientes will be Mexico’s sixth Hyatt Place hotel.Hyatt Place hotels offer casual hospitality and purposeful service in a smartly designed, high-tech and contemporary environment. Hyatt Place Aguascalientes will be located in the southern area of the city in close proximity to industrial parks, automotive manufacturing plants and downtown Aguascalientes, where all municipal and central government offices are located.

  • Hotel City Express

Hoteles City Express announced the opening of City Express Atlixco. The hotel, based in Atlixco, Puebla marks the Company’s 137th hotel in operation. Hoteles City now has more than 15,400 available rooms in 68 cities and 30 states in México, as well as Colombia, Costa Rica and Chile.City Express Atlixco has 108 available rooms and was developed under a franchise contract. This new property will serve travelers with business activities in the Atlixco Valley area and is expected to benefit from commercial activity in the city.

 

  • United & Mesa Airlines

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) tentatively awarded United Airlines and Mesa Airlines authority to begin offering daily nonstop service between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Havana’s José Martí International Airport. Subject to final government approval, United will expand from Saturday-only service to daily service.Launched in December 2016, United’s successful Saturday-only service between Houston and Havana has provided thousands of customers with greater choice and convenience when planning travel to Havana.Houston, United’s gateway to Latin America, is geographically well situated to connect flights from the central and western United States to Havana.

  • Campbell Soup Company

The Campbell Soup Company, also known as just Campbell’s, an American producer of canned soups and related products that are sold in 120 countries, has appointed Publicis Groupe to handle its’ creative and media business for many of its brands, following a competitive review, Ad Age first reported. Publicis will handle Campbell’s U.S. retail creative, along with that in Canada and Asia-Pacific. It will also handle Campbell’s digital, tech and consumer promotion business as well as media planning and buying for Campbell globally. Campbell’s incumbent media agency, WPP and GroupM’s MEC (now Wavemaker), which handled U.S. planning and buying since 1999, and global planning and buying since 2006, is out. Among Campbell’s brands Publicis will handle in the U.S. are Chunky soup, V8 beverages, Pace salsa, Prego sauces, Swanson broth and Spaghetti-O’s. It will also do media planning and buying for Pepperidge Farm but not creative. Campbell spends more than US$300 million on advertising in the U.S. alone.

 

  • P&G

P&G and IMS signed a commercial agreement with panregional aims to spread P&G’s marketing communications across all digital platforms exclusively managed by IMS. P&G will reach its audiences through 15, 20, 30 seconds video ads, that will guarantee a CPCV (Cost per completed view) on premium content ensuring brand safety and viewability.
The agreement will impact ten different Latin American markets where IMS manages platforms such as Spotify, Snapchat, Vevo, EA, Twitch, Twitter, Foursquare, Yahoo, Waze, as well as its own programmatic solution.

 

  • United Airlines

United Airlines will continue to expand its cabin segmentation initiatives, with plans to bring no frills fares to Latin American and European flights later this year.The expanded fare offerings coupled with the roll out of a new premium economy cabin on select international routes in the fourth quarter are part of United’s drive to generate roughly US$1 billion in incremental revenue from segmentation by 2020.The Star Alliance carrier plans to expand its basic economy fares, which lack attributes of standard economy fares like advanced seat assignments and carry-on bags and come with additional restrictions, to the two international geographies later in 2018, says United president Scott Kirby at the JP Morgan Aviation, Transportation and Industrials conference on 13 March.

 

 

  • Hyatt Hotels Corporation 

Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the opening of Hyatt Place Macaé in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. Hyatt Place Macaé is the first ocean-front Hyatt Place hotel in Latin America and the second Hyatt Place hotel in Brazil, joining Hyatt Place São José do Rio Preto, which opened in November 2016. The hotel is part of a larger master development agreement between Hyatt affiliates and Elandis to develop a total of nine Hyatt Place hotels across Brazil.Hyatt is currently represented in Brazil by two full-service luxury hotels Grand Hyatt São Paulo (466 rooms), Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro (436 rooms) and now by two select service hotels, including Hyatt Place São José do Rio Preto (152 rooms) and Hyatt Place Macaé (141 rooms).

  • Starbucks

Sao Paulo investment firm SouthRock Capital has signed an agreement with Starbucks Corp that gives it the right to develop and operate branches of the Seattle-based chain in Brazil, the companies said. With the agreement, whose value was not disclosed, all of Starbucks’ retail operations in Latin America are now wholly licensed rather than directly managed, the companies said.SouthRock founder Ken Pope said in a statement the fund would eye expansion opportunities in new and existing markets. Starbucks now has 113 stores across the populous states of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.SouthRock, founded in 2015, also owns Brazil Airport Restaurants, which operates in the country’s biggest airports.

 

 

  • Blue Ribbon Orlando Vacation Homes

Blue Ribbon Orlando Vacation Homes announced a year-long partnership with CVC Brasil Operadora e Agência de Viagens S.A., the largest tour operator in Brazil and across Latin America. As part of the partnership, CVC will now offer vacation homes managed by Blue Ribbon as an alternative to hotels to its clients traveling to Orlando, FL.Since its founding in 2009, CVC Operadora has achieved sustained growth and now operates 1,156 exclusive CVC travel agencies, approximately 46 CVC exchange stores and 6,500 partner agencies in Brazil serving millions of travelers with the most competitive deals, making it the largest player for vacation rentals in a growing market segment in Brazil.

  • Samsung

In the last two years, Samsung has expanded and remodeled its official channels to better serve its customers in Brazil, whether through the call center, email, chat, Facebook and even Twitter by direct messages (DM) as well as incorporating automation and artificial intelligence. Currently, Samsung’s customers have a wide spectrum of options and channels to solve doubts and problems.The partnership between Samsung and Atento, the leading company in customer relationship services and business process outsourcing (CRM/BPO) in Latin America, has facilitated the evolution to a new level of service, allowing Samsung’s customers to have an even more personalized and excellent service. The new Samsung’s customer relationship center set up by Atento in Brazil, has more than 1.200 workstations and has permitted to extend the call center’s service hours. Located in Sao Paulo, the new customer relationship center encompasses customer care operations, after-sales services, back office and strategic digital solutions delivered through social media.

Nike-owned Converse, a skating shoes and lifestyle brand footwear best known for its’ Chuck Taylor sneakers, has kicked off a global media buying and planning review, according to AgencySpy. Converse is said to be looking to consolidate the entirety of that business with a single agency network.Back in 2015, Omnicom snatched Converse account away from Mediavest.

Luxury brands agency HERA LATAM is to represent jewellery accessories label WOLF in Mexico and Central and South American territories.According to the company, HERA LATAM’s expertise is based on strong experience in export sales across Latin American domestic and travel retail markets. HERA LATAM focuses on a small portfolio of brands including Montegrappa, Von Arkel Switzerland and Cuervo y Sobrinoas.

 

 

 

  • Boeing & Aeromexico

Boeing and Aeromexico celebrated the delivery of the first of up to 90 737 MAX airplanes. Mexico’s global airline plans to use the more fuel-efficient and longer-range MAX jets to expand its network across the Americas.In 2012 Aeromexico placed an order for up to 90 MAX airplanes, including the MAX 8 and the larger MAX 9 variant. The two models offer the airline the flexibility to fly between approximately 160 and 190 passengers on flights of about 3,550 nautical miles (6,570 kilometers), both with better operating costs and passenger experience.Aeromexico, the largest airline in Mexico, operates one of the most technologically-advanced fleets in the region. It is a leading operator of the 787 Dreamliner.The 737 MAX is the fastest-selling airplane in Boeing history, accumulating more than 4,300 orders from 93 customers worldwide.

  • Kimberly-Clark

Consumer packaged goods giant Kimberly-Clark has launched a global creative review, Adweek first reported.  The review includes only creative. WPP’s Mindshare, part of its GroupM unit, handles media planning and buying and is not part of the review. Although K-C has increasingly taken programmatic operations in-house.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the expansion of its loyalty program, World of Hyatt, to the leading provider of home service accommodation, known as Oasis. Guests opting for the home sharing space with Oasis can earn and redeem Hyatt’s loyalty points. Oasis’s operations across the globe expand Hyatt’s footprint in untapped markets like Barcelona, Ibiza, Punta del Este (Uruguay) and Trancoso (Brazil). The above move, thus, underscores Hyatt’s relentless expansion strategies to strengthen its brand position globally. It also indicates the company’s commitment toward devising ways to enhance guest experience and raise occupancy. Under the World of Hyatt loyalty program, members would be rewarded with 5 Base Points per dollar spent on Oasis nights and are allowedto redeem 15,000 points for a $200 credit toward an Oasis stay. Elite members can earn bonus points and are given late check-out options.

  • Revlon

Revlon has consolidated its US$400-million plus multi-brand global advertising account with WPP’s Grey and Mediacom. Grey will provide integrated communications services, including traditional and digital advertising and promotion and activation marketing for our brands, including Revlon, Elizabeth Arden, Almay, CND, Cutex, Sinful and many of our key fragrance brands, including Charlie, Britney Spears, Curve, Tapout and Elizabeth Taylor. Mediacom was already handling Revlon brand in the U.S. Now, the agency will have its duties expanded to become global media planning and buying agency of record across all brands.

 

 

  • Michelin

French tire manufacturing Michelin has awarded Havas Media its global media business following a competitive pitch. Incumbent MediaCom participated in the review, AdWeek reported. Michelin spends and around US$100 million annually on ads globally and more than US$25 million in the U.S. Havas will handle media planning and buying duties for all of the company’s major markets including the United States, Mexico, Canada, France, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and China.

 

 

 

 

  • UBER

Uber app has released its new campaign for Latin America, in which the brand highlights the reasons why more and more people decide to become Uber drivers. The campaign “Manera Diferente” was created to be broadcasted on TV and seeks to portray the potential of becoming a Uber driver. In addition, the app will launch a series of videos that will compile the best moments of different testimonies. Uber’s creative team was inspired by quantitative surveys conducted among drivers and users of the company to develop the campaign. The campaign will include pieces for radio, print, out of home and digital strategy, fully integrated with differentiated formats such as dynamic videos, in-app programmatic media and vertical video formats.

The agency will be responsible for managing the company’s communications through digital media. Global Mind has already begun working on a carbon monoxide prevention campaign. Metrogas joins the agency’s portfolio which includes brands such as Peugeot, Tarjeta Naranja, Epson and YPF, among others.

  • GSK/global

4f04e6a303341df5bbe81beafdf29f33_biggerGlaxoSmithKline, Pharma and consumer-health giant, has awarded its global media agency account, including part of GSK’s recently added Novartis health and vaccine business, to incumbents PHD and Mediacom.Incumbents for GSK and Novartis were invited to pitch for the more than US$600 million combined media business in the latest review, which followed the completion of GSK’s deal with the rival pharma giant. The deal granted GSK a 63.5% stake in a US$10 billion global joint venture, combining both companies’ over-the-counter consumer health-care operations. As part of the pact, GSK also acquired the bulk of Novartis’ global vaccines business and sold its oncology portfolio and rights for future products to Novartis.
