Univision employed about 4,000 people as of March 31, according to filings.<\/p>\n<p>The cuts are part of \u201ca broader streamlining of operations across Univision,\u201d according to\u00a0<strong>Isaac Lee<\/strong>, Univision\u2019s chief news, entertainment and digital officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConstantly adjusting our scale and our processes is a reality of the business we are all in,\u201d he said. \u201cThese necessary changes come as we look to strategically bring together several distinct digital media companies into one powerful and nimble digital publishing entity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company is preparing for a possible IPO while struggling with shrinking sales and profit and adjusting to a restructuring that includes\u00a0adding fusion.net and TheRoot.com to the Gizmodo Media Group, which Univision bought in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm canvas-atom\">The changes also follow a year of declining ratings at Univision, and a Q3 report that showed drops in ad sales and a US$199.5 million write-down primarily to account for the diminishing value of the company\u2019s radio properties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm canvas-atom\">Univision wound up with a US$30.5 million loss in Q3, down from a US$109.8 million profit last year, with US$734.8 million in revenues, down 8.3%.<\/p>\n<p>Univision, based in New York, confirmed that it \u201celiminated a number of positions in various areas of the company\u201d and said it will be adding new ones in coming months \u201cto support strategic growth areas,\u201d according to an e-mailed statement.<\/p>\n<p>Univision is privately held.
