  • Walmart

Walmart has announced it is acquiring Cornershop, a leading online marketplace for on-demand delivery from supermarkets, pharmacies and specialty food retailers in Mexico and Chile.Walmart will pay US$225 million for Cornershop, which has seen its number of unique users double in the past 12 months. Closing of the transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected by the end of the year.As part of the agreement, Cornershop will remain an open platform.

 

 

 

  • MoneyGram

MoneyGram customers in Mexico have thousands of new locations to choose from when they need to pick up money sent from family and friends around the globe. The company’s money transfer receive service is now available at more than 17,000 OXXO convenience stores in the country.When picking up at an OXXO store, consumers can receive up to 2,000 pesos in cash. All additional funds, up to 11,600 pesos, can be transferred into a bank account from the OXXO location, or put on Saldazo, a debit card co-branded between OXXO and CitiBanamex. Remittances are one of Mexico’s top sources of foreign income. According to the World Bank, more than US$30 billion flowed into the country in 2017.

 

 

  • PepsiCo

Pepsico announced the expansion of its global relationship with its´marketing execution partner HH Global in Latin America beginning with implementation in Brazil and with the commitment to expand throughout the region.Under the terms of the agreement, HH Global will provide a suite of marketing execution services and proprietary HHub technology to support PepsiCo’s creative production and procurement requirements for print and point of sale materials. The implementation extends HH Global’s agreement with PepsiCo which originated in 2009 in France and the Benelux countries and has since expanded to Russia, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.   • Google

Google will invest around US$140 million to expand its data center in Chile, the company’s only infrastructure of its kind in Latin America, which houses the information of millions of its users, the tech giant announced. The complex, built in the Santiago suburb of Quilicura, is part of a group of 15 data centers that store and transmit information generated by applications like Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Waze and Uber, Efe reported.

  • Samsung

Samsung has appointed Leo Burnett as global creative AOR for the brand’s visual-display division (TVs), following a competitive pitch. Led by the agency’s Chicago office, the 75 market remit will include global brand positioning, integrated communications strategy and creative. Starcom will provide media planning and buying expertise, given its role as Samsung’s global media AOR.Samsung spent US$27 million on measured media for its TV division last year in the U.S., according to Kantar Media.

 

 

 

 

  • CMPC Tissue

Media agency Initiative will be in charge of CMPC Tissue‘s media strategy and planning in Latin America. The agency will be responsible for media planning, buying and strategy for CMPC Tissue’s brands La Papelera de Plata, Productos Tissue del Perú, Industria Papelera Uruguaya, Melhoramentos CMPC, Absormex CMPC Tissue, Drypers Andina and Productos Tissue del Ecuador, in markets such as Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador. The account was handled by various agencies in the different countries where CMPC Tissue has presence. The regional hub will be based in Chile and will work jointly with each of the local teams.

 

 

 

  • Enterprise Rent-A-Car

As part of its ongoing expansion in Latin America and the Caribbean, one of the world’s largest car rental company has opened four new Enterprise Rent-A-Car locations at the Dominican Republic’s largest airports: Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) in Santo Domingo;Cibao International Airport (STI) in Santiago de los Cabelleros; and Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) in Puerto Plata. Enterprise Holdings Inc. owns the Enterprise Rent-A-Car brand, as well as National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car. The National brand has been operating in the Dominican Republic since 1974.The Enterprise Rent-A-Car brand expanded into Latin America in 2015, and announced the opening of 22 new locations throughout Belize, Honduras, Mexico, Tortola, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos and Uruguay in 2016.Today, the Enterprise, National and Alamo brands operate in more than 90 countries, including 31 in Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

 

 

  • MoneyGram

MoneyGram and Grupo Elektra, have extended their agreement to provide money transfer services inside nearly 2,000 Elektra locations in Mexico through 2021. The partnership strengthens MoneyGram’s position in the dynamically growing market – with over US$30 billion inflows in 2017, the U.S. to Mexico is the largest remittance corridor in the world.Grupo Elektra is Latin America’s leading specialty retailer and financial services company and the largest non-bank provider of cash advance services in the United States. Since 2012, MoneyGram and Grupo Elektra have worked together to make sending and receiving money around the world easy and convenient for consumers in Mexico.

  • Avianca Airlines

Avianca Airlines inaugurated a trio of Latin American flights from Orlando International Airport.Since 2011, the airline has provided a daily flight from Orlando to Bogota, Colombia.The three new flights are: daily to Lima, Peru; four times a week to San Salvador, El Salvador; and three times a week to Guatemala City, Guatemala.Orlando International Airport’s international business has grown from 3.3 million passengers annually in 2011 to 6.2 million currently.Airline officials expect the bulk of tickets for the Guatemala and El Salvador flights to be sold in those countries, while the Peru flight will bring a more even mix of tickets sold in the U.S. and Colombia.The airline was founded in Colombia in the early 1900s but is now based at three hubs: Bogota, San Salvador and Lima.

 

 

 

  • Johnson’s Baby

Johnson & Johnson recently re-staged an entire line of products on a global basis for its´JOHNSON’S® Baby brand. For nearly 125 years, Johnson’s Baby—shampoos, washes, lotions—grew to become one of the most popular baby brand in the world, with sales in more than 140 countries. To reach this size and scope, the brand developed regionally, leading to 470 products, 293 formulas, and 102 different types of bottles and closures.The restructuring of the brand included streamlining operations, simplifying the supply chain, paring back ingredient lists, and creating updated and globalized formulations based on cutting-edge science as well as parental preferences.The new packaging began reaching store shelves in North America in July. India and China are next, followed by Europe and then Latin America.

descargaServing 20 destinations in 15 Latin American countries, Iberia airline is revamping its services with the aim of transforming itself into “the” business airline between Europe and the Americas.To accomplish this task, the company – which is part of the International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A., or IAG, conglomerate – is taking the time to recraft its on-board service offerings: For instance, the business service includes completely level beds 2 meters (6.5 feet) long, 15.4-inch touch screens and a broad range of a la carte entertainment, as well as a food service with gourmet recipes including the best Spanish wines.The incorporation of the new Airbus A330/200, the most modern aircraft in the firm’s fleet, which will operate on the Central American route and elsewhere, will enable the airline to improve its on-board offerings with high-speed WiFi enabling travelers to continue their online session on several devices to respond to emails, review presentations and documents, receive and send photos or use the social networks.In gearing itself to serve the business sector, Iberia is also providing “specific offerings” for small and medium-sized companies to enable them to benefit from “discounts” and promotions.

  • Delta Air Lines

Delta has expanded Delta Comfort+ fares to more markets, making it easier to shop and buy Delta’s menu of products. Customers can now purchase Delta Comfort+ flights for travel on or after Sept.19, 2016, to and from the Asia-Pacific and Latin America/Caribbean regions. This evolutionary step expands on the airline’s recent launch of Delta Comfort+ fares within the U.S. and Canada.Delta Comfort+ now available as a fare for flights to Asia and Latin America.In March 2015, Delta introduced Delta Comfort+ as the airline’s industry that offers Sky Priority boarding with dedicated overhead bin space; extra legroom; free craft beer, wine and spirits; complimentary snacks; and complimentary premium entertainment on most flights*. In November 2015, Delta began selling Delta Comfort+ as a fare for travel in the U.S. and Canada beginning on May 16.Delta, which currently sells Delta Comfort+ as a fare within the U.S. and Canada, will now offer the product for flights on or after Sept. 19, 2016 for travel:Between the U.S. and Canada and Latin America/Caribbean regions, excluding Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Chile.

  • MoneyGram/Walmart Mexico

MoneyGram and Walmart Mexico have extended their agreement to provide MoneyGram receive services at many Walmart locations in the country until 2018. The new contract ensures customers will continue to enjoy the same quick, convenient and reliable money transfer services at most of their favorite Walmart Mexico locations. MoneyGram receive services have been available inside all of Walmart’s five different branded stores in Mexico since the companies signed their first contract in 2000.  Customers will continue to receive pay outs at Walmart Super Centers, Bodega Aurrera, mi Bodega Aurrera, Superama and Suburbia locations.

  • DineEquity® 

DineEquity, Inc. ®, a full service restaurant companies, will entered the Panama market with the first IHOP® restaurant (“IHOP)” opened on May 23 in Panama City.  The restaurant is one of six IHOP locations planned for Panama during the next five years under an agreement with franchise partner Collins Rada Group Inc. and its affiliates. Located in Costa del Este, Avenida Centenario, Rada Plaza, Ciudad de Panamá, the restaurant is expected to bring 150 new jobs to the economy as well as additional tax revenue and ongoing local spending on supplies, ingredients and marketing and other services. The IHOP restaurant will be the latest “California Heritage” model which pays tribute to the brand’s heritage given that the first IHOP restaurant opened in Southern California in 1958.  The restaurant will seat approximately 205 guests and will be open daily from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm.
