  • U.S. Army

Omnicom’s DDB has been assigned U.S. Army US$4 billion ad account, according to the Department of Defense.The DOD statement said the new contract could extend to 2028. The scope of work includes media, creative, digital, PR and direct marketing.McCann has been the incumbent on the account for more than a decade.DDB will create a dedicated unit for the army account that will include staffers from OMD, Rapp, Critical Mass, Annalect, The Marketing Arm and other specialist Omnicom agencies.

 

 

 

  • Dunkin’

Dunkin’, long recognized for keeping on-the-go guests energized with its signature hot and iced coffees, is now determined to be known for great-tasting espresso beverages. Nearly one month after unveiling its new rebranding designed to emphasize its beverage-focused strategy, Dunkin’ revealed one of the most significant product initiatives in the brand’s recent history, with the goal of offering an entirely new espresso experience for customers in its U.S. restaurants by the holiday season. The donut chain has unveiled it’s newest campaign from BBDO, “Sipping is Believing,” which iincludes TV spots and digital ads featuring quirky, edging-on-satiric humor. The campaign also includes social media, radio and digital display ads, and promotions and events through the end of the year. Dunkin’ is offering medium-sized lattes and cappuccinos for US$2 all day from Nov. 19-25, and during afternoons from Nov. 26-Dec. 30.The espresso line reboot is a crucial initiative within Dunkin´s newly announced, beverage-focused strategy.

  • Revlon

Revlon has put its global brand PR account up for review, according to an individual familiar with the process. Lippe Taylor had been the brand AOR for several years, but it declined to participate in this process. Revlon reported net sales of US$655.4 million in Q3, down 2% year-over-year. Its net loss of US$11.1 million in the quarter was an improvement from the loss of US$32.4 million in the prior year. Last June, Revlon picked Initiative for global media duties.

  • Honda

In partnership with Universal Pictures and Illumination’s Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, Honda has discovered that their Happy Honda Days event was stolen by the Grinch during Sunday television programming, leaving an empty Honda dealership and spreading unhappiness across the automaker’s annual holiday campaign. The Grinch canceled Honda’s annual sales event because it was simply too happy and today, he has taken over the brand’s Twitter channel, where he shares unhappy and unmerry holiday comments, featuring the hashtag #GrinchTakeover. Fans will want to follow along to see what else the Grinch may be scheming — or if Happy Honda Days can be saved.The Grinch is also using Honda’s Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and YouTube channels to spread word about his Twitter takeover. As a marketing partner of the film, Honda’s campaign includes two TV commercials, digital media, social media posts and NBCUniversal custom content featuring the Grinch.

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) announced that Apple CarPlay™ integration for your iPhone® and Android Auto™ are now available as a dealer-installed update for applicable Mazda vehicles, model year 2014 or newer and equipped with MAZDA CONNECT™ infotainment system.This dealer-installed update includes both hardware and software components. his integration helps keep the driver’s hand and eyes away from their smartphone. Mazda North American Operations is headquartered in Irvine, California, and oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States and Mexico through nearly 700 dealers.

Ulta Beauty, one of the nation’s largest beauty retailer, has appointed Interpublic Group’s McCann as creative AOR and Mediahub as media planning agency.  The company reported total advertising costs last year of US$212.7 million last year, according to its 2016 annual report.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Nissan

Nissan and Univision Communications Inc.(UCI) have extended their partnership for a third year, expanding the live concert tour element of the partnership to a series of performances by Latin GRAMMY® and GRAMMY® award-winning artist Juanes under the Nissan Presents: Road to Innovation Tour. The multiplatform program is once again integrated into Univision’s annual broadcast of The Biggest Night in Latin Music®, the 18 Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards® as the official automobile sponsor. A new addition is the Road to Innovation concert tour, which this year included eight cities through November 14, and featured performances by Juanes in Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. In addition, the 360◦ promotional campaign – including social media influencer elements featuring Nissan vehicles – encourages customers to participate for the opportunity to attend the 18th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards in Las Vegas on behalf of Nissan. To maximize the Juanes concert tour, all DJ sets and refreshment areas were branded with the names of Nissan vehicles. A native of Colombia, Juanes is a multiple award-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist, who has captured the hearts of millions of followers around the world including the U.S. and Latin America. Both Nissan campaigns are supported by a combination of UCI television, radio and digital elements in addition to local crew remotes and on-site activations and promotions. An original Facebook video series also integrates music and Nissan vehicles driven by a social media influencer.

  • Mazda North America

The Univision Creator Network (UCN) has partnered with Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) for a new digital and social campaign that connects Hispanic American consumers with the brand’s core values. In the digital video series, UCN influencer Alan Estrada visits Hiroshima and takes his fans on the adventure of a lifetime. The creative concept for the Mazda campaign was developed by Bravo, a full-service Hispanic marketing and advertising agency, and Univision. The videos are shared on Estrada’s social platforms and Univision’s social pages, driving increased engagement and awareness.

Payless ShoeSource, an U.S. specialty footwear retailer, has outlined several key initiatives as part of the Company’s ongoing transformation. These actions will increase efficiencies across domestic and international operations and allow Payless to reprioritize the business to focus on the customer, accelerate and expand its e-commerce business, and invest in future growth. As part of an initiative to redesign its organizational structure and better align resources, the Company is streamlining its corporate headquarters. According to Martin R. Wade, III, Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Payless, the brand is piloting a new pricing strategy and have launched Hispanic marketing in the U.S., to reach an important and currently under-served portion of its’ customer base. In addition, the brand has brought in a new Chief Strategy Officer and identified strong talent within the organization leading to several promotions, including our new Chief Financial Officer.

 

  • El Rancho Supermercado

Albertsons Companies, one of the nation’s largest grocery retailers, announced an investment in El Rancho Supermercado, a Texas-based retailer which focuses on stores for Latino customers. El Rancho will continue to operate as an independent company headquartered in Garland, TX. The agreement with El Rancho provides Albertsons Companies an opportunity to invest in the fast-growing Latino grocery sector. The company already successfully operates a variety of store banners in predominantly Latino areas, and together, Albertsons Companies and El Rancho can leverage their complementary strengths to better serve customers in this growing sector. Peter J. Solomon Company served as financial advisor, and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett served as legal advisor to El Rancho, respectively, and Schulte Roth & Zabel served as legal advisor to Albertsons. 

  • Goya Foods

Goya Foods, one of the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the United States, expands its North American Processing Center in Brookshire, Texas by adding 324,000 square feet of production warehouse, distribution warehouse, production office and auxiliary buildings.As the only Hispanic food company that offers consumers an entire line of low sodium, organic, diet and sugar-free products, Goya’s expansion of its cutting edge, high-tech facilities will maintain its mission to produce affordable products without sacrificing taste to national and global markets.  The expansion of this facility will help reach new consumers and strengthen the Goya brand throughout the United States and internationally including Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and Asia. The expanded facility, with an expected completion in 2018, will also feature a total of 29 new dock doors for domestic and international distribution.

  • Amazon 

Amazon has launched a review of its global media planning and buying accountAdweek has reported. The review has invited media agencies to pitch for the business. The estimated US$1 billion-plus media services account includes North American and other markets worldwide. Incumbent IPG Mediabrands Initiative handles global media AOR, while WPP’s MEC handles U.S. digital media-buying.

  • Ubisoft

Gaming giant Ubisoft has appointed IPG’S UM to handle media planning and buying duties. Ubisoft spends about US$30 million a year on U.S. measured media. The UM office in San Francisco, where Ubisoft’s U.S. operations are based, will oversee the account. UM will also handle data and analytics for the Ubisoft brand. GroupM handles global media for Ubisoft and that relationship so far continues. Among Ubisoft’s gaming products are the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Just Dance titles.The account win is the fourth for UM in 2017, already having won the media business for fashion brand Coach, streaming service Hulu and the B2B division of consultancy Accenture.

 

 

  • Richemont

Luxury-goods giant Richemont has appointed WPP’s MediaCom to handle its US$400 million global media planning and buying business. Publicis Media agencies handled the account.Richemont brands include Montblanc, Piaget, Cartier and Alfred Dunhill.

 

 

  • Subway

Subway has kicked off a formal North America agency review that could include bringing creative and media together. The company hopes to have a new agency or agencies in place by early next year. “We are evaluating all options, including bringing creative and media together, to drive efficiency and effectiveness across channels in a changing landscape,” Subway said. The review includes current agency partners and other agencies and agency families. The review comes three months after Subway hired Accenture’s Karlin Linhardt to the new role of senior VP-marketing, North America. Subway noted that it has long-standing agency relationships, including 17 years with Mediacom, 14 years with MMB and 10 years with Carat.

Leveraging the popularity of two popular Hispanic-inspired cocktail classics, Geloso Beverage Group’s Clubtails brand has launched two new malt based ‘Cocktails in a Can’ under the Clubtails Especial brand. Clubtails was launched in 2012 with four original malt beverage flavors and has since expanded and today features 12 cocktail-flavor favorites.The product appeals to consumers who enjoy traditional cocktail flavors with higher alcohol content that offers a spirit-like finish with the convenience of a can. Clubtails Especial extends the Clubtails portfolio, offering products specifically targeting the Hispanic market with cocktail flavors native to their culture.Clubtails Especial Cuba Libre and Paloma will be available in retail stores where Clubtails are currently sold.

  • Mazda

NBCUniversal Telemundo has created for client Mazda an eight-episode documentary series aimed at Hispanic viewers called Al Bate! (Batter Up!) that features former Major League Baseball Mexican player Ramiro Peña, who is now an infielder for the Hiroshima Carp in Japan.The Spanish-language series will appear on TelemundoDeportes.com starting July 25, accompanied with commercials introducing the new Mazda CX-5. The video’s web page will be co-branded by Telemundo and Mazda.The launch of the series is being preceded by other Mazda marketing materials. In addition to TelemundoDeportes.com, those Japanese materials appeared on Telemundo’s Novelas app and the network’s Facebook Page.NBCU is using premium content to tell Peña’s immigrant story to Hispanic consumers, who want that content wherever they go and view digital media on mobile devices. “This is a way of giving them a different story that is not going to be on television,” she said.Hispanic viewers are also very engaged with sports, and Telemundo research indicates that its viewers are more likely to talk about products they see advertised on the network.

  • UnitedHealth Group

UnitedHealth Group , one of America’s largest health insurance payer, has launched a media agency review. UnitedHealth Group recently issued an RFP calling upon agencies to handle media planning and buying for all of its brands (including UnitedHealthcare) in the United States, according to Adweek.The review remains in its early stages. Agencies from MDC Partners, Publicis Groupe and WPP’s GroupM are involved in the pitch. Omnicom, IPG Mediabrands and Dentsu Aegis cannot participate due to conflicts regarding other health care clients.Independent Minneapolis agency Periscope handled media duties on its most recent campaigns.UnitedHealth Group spending US$242 million on measured media in the U.S. in 2016 and US$44 million during the first quarter of this year, according to Kantar Media.

  • Allstate

As a visible and active supporter of the soccer community, Allstate has renewed its title of Official Insurance Sponsor of CONCACAF, and has wasted no time making a splash with Hispanic fans. Allstate is reaching and connecting with passionate fans is through the new #MalaSuertePrometo campaign, the brainchild of Ad agency Lapiz, which is built on the idea that fans will make crazy promises if it means that their team will win. Built around the 2017 Gold Cup, #MalaSuertePrometo features the sophisticated and clever, yet often mischievous, Mala Suerte character that fans have come to know and love. Through Mala Suerte, Allstate has been challenging fans from its Facebook page to make these crazy promises using the hashtag #MalaSuertePrometo for a chance to win tickets to the CONCACAF Gold Cup final in San Francisco. The campaign includes on-site activations ahead of select Gold Cup matches where fans can fulfill their promises live on camera – everything from fans shaving their heads to wearing crazy outfits – with all footage being shared on Allstate’s Facebook page. For the final match, Allstate will use Facebook Live to broadcast the fulfillment of the winning promise, and it “promises” to be an epic ending to the tournament. (Allstate’s Daniel Keats, Director Sports and Sponsorships and Consumer Marketing Allstate Insurance will be one of the key speakers at Portada’s Sports Forum on Sept. 13.

  • Houston Dynamo

MLS team’s marketing strategy is trying to stand above the crowd in a city with so many sports and entertainment choices. The Houston Dynamo was one of the first teams to join the MLS. It was also the first U.S. team to secure a place in the CONCACAF Champions League, starting in 2008. Portada interviewed Lexie Sidney, Director of Strategic Marketing for the soccer team Houston Dynamo, about the challenges the team is facing in terms of marketing strategies. We also spoke with Alyssa Bruno, Marketing Director for the Colorado Rapids, about what strategies are working the best to grow the team within the MLS.

Mazda North American Operations is headquartered in Irvine, California, and oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States and Mexico through nearly 700 dealers. Operations in Mexico are managed by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.

aaeaaqaaaaaaaajzaaaajdhhodbmmwu4ltnknmqtngzhzc05mzg1ltrimwrkzjy2njgzygU.S. Hispanic creative directors Sergio Alcocer is launching an agency called Rest of the World, in a return to the ad industry following the end of his non-compete agreement with Omnicom Group, Adage reports.Mr. Alcocer left Omnicom’s  LatinWorks at the end of October 2015 after 16 years at the Hispanic shop where he was president and chief creative officer.The agency will be based in Austin, where Alcocer lives and was based with LatinWorks.So far he’s been working on a couple small projects, including a campaign to promote U.S. tourism to Mexico’s Baja California region and an effort to launch Mexican sports brand Voit in the U.S.
