hhhhP&G has promoted Latin America marketing boss Stefan Feitoza to replace Roisin Donnelly. Feitoza spent the last 16 years with P&G, predominantly in Latin America where he was brand manager for Brazil before taking on responsibility for the whole region.Donnelly left the company in June after 31 years.

raju_narisetti_-_international_journalism_festival_2015Univision announced that digital media executive and veteran editor Raju Narisetti has been named Chief Executive Officer for Gizmodo Media Group (GMG), the former Gawker Media Group and a unit within the company’s Fusion Media Group (FMG).  Gawker Media  was recently acquired by Univision. As CEO, he will be responsible for managing all business and editorial operations for the Gizmodo Media Group, home to brands focused on technology (Gizmodo), car culture (Jalopnik), contemporary women’s interests (Jezebel), sports (Deadspin), lifestyle (Lifehacker), and gaming (Kotaku).Narisetti, who will be based at GMG headquarters in New York, will report to Isaac Lee, Chief News, Digital and Entertainment Officer of UCI, and Felipe Holguin, President and Chief Operating Officer of FMG. Heather Detrick, President of GMG, John Cook, Executive Editor, and Courtenay O’Connor, GMG Deputy General Counsel, will all report directly to Narisetti. He will formally join Gizmodo Media Group in late October.

Penni Barton last day of work at Al Dia Texas, (part of A.H. Belo, The Dallas Morning News) was on January 2. Barton worked as Publisher of Al Dia Texas since July 2013. A. H. Belo  plans to hire a sales manager to replace Barton,  said Jim Moroney, chairman, president and chief executive of A.H. Belo and publisher of The Dallas Morning News. The company also said it would eliminate the titles of publisher of its niche publications, moving those sales management and editorial functions back under the broader organization.In addition, two current executives — Joe Weir and Nicki Purcell — are being promoted.Chief revenue officer Dan Phelan is leaving Dec. 31. Chief marketing officer Jason Dyer’s last day will be Feb. 1.Weir, currently vice president of digital sales, will replace Phelan. Purcell, The News’ digital publisher, will assume Dyer’s responsibilities. Her title will change to chief digital officer and senior vice president of consumer sales.

In his new role, Grimaldi will be responsible for extending the company’s sales and marketing operations across the Americas, together with Bruce Brandfon, MD US, and Wayne St. John, MD Canada. Besides business development, especially in the growing Latin American market, further diversifying Publicitas’ media portfolio and expanding digital capabilities will be a core focus.
Grimaldi tells Portada that “I am looking forward to this new role and to working closely with our offices and teams in the U.S. and Canada to continue providing top service and growing our relationships with clients, agencies and media partners in the region.” He adds that he will continue to be based in Miami. Both the U.S. Hispanic and Latin American markets will continue to be important in Publicitas Americas strategy: “Our team is already focusing on these key markets and we are expecting to continue to expand our footprint in them. Bringing in top talent will also remain a priority.” According to the Publicitas release, “Grimaldi has been instrumental in winning several new global media representation contracts with premium media owners.”

What: Swiss Media and Advertising company PubliGroupe SA  has sold Publicitas to German investment firm Aurelius AG.
Why it matters: Publicitas plays in important role in international media representation including in Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market

PublicitasAurelius AG, a German investment firm, is acquiring Publicitas for a price “in the low double-digit million franc range” (between US $11 and US $15 million). Lausanne, Switzerland-based PubliGroupe said in a statement. The deal requires shareholder approval at PubliGroupe’s annual general meeting later this month. Publicitas generated gross revenues (including the value of the advertising space) of over 657 million euros (US $ 920 million) in 2013 (net revenues: 110 million euros – US $154 million). The transaction is one of the biggest in the history of Aurelius.

Publicitas was founded 124 years ago and was originally focused on international print media representation. It has approximately 860 employees in 70 offices based in 20 different countries. “Publicitas has a very good position in the Swiss market, but also internationally. We will be strengthening the company’s new strategy to become a cross media service provider,” said Dr. Dirk Markus, Chairman of the Board at Aurelius AG.

Important Latin American presence

Publicitas has played an important role in panregional/Latin American and U.S. Hispanic media representation over the last few decades. Publicitas bought Miami based media representation firm Charney & Palacios in the nineties. After the acquistion the firm was called Publicitas Charney &  Palacios.  The firm is now called Publicitas Inc. Latin America and led by Lucio Grimaldi, Vice President, Managing Director Latin America & US Hispanic. In November 2012  Publicitas bought Improve Digital, a SSP (Supply Side Provider) which helps digital publishers automate their sales relationships and manage their own private marketplaces. Improve Digital later created The Mark, an exclusive real-time advertising marketplace that connects premium brands with premium publishers, whilst still maintaining full control over brand safety and pricing.

PubliGroup to focus on digital business

At PubliGroupe digital business will generate more than 80 percent of the company’s revenues after the sale of Publicitas/ “The sale of Publicitas is a resolute continuation of businesses in the area of digital advertising trading and processing,” PubliGroup’s Chief Executive Officer Arndt Groth said in the statement.

Porter Novelli has appointed Univision Interactive Media executive Diana Valencia to serve as SVP of multicultural communications, a newly created position at the agency.Valencia, who most recently served as senior director of mobile sales development at Univision, started at Porter on January 14. Most recently, Campopiano was regional creative director of Draftfcb Latin America. He joined Draftfcb Argentina in 2010 as executive creative director.

Grimaldi will also be in charge of Publicitas U.S. Hispanic efforts. In the U.S. Hispanic marke Publicitas places a strong  emphasis in monetizing Latin American websites that are visited by U.S. Hispanic audiences through geotargeting techniques.

Grimaldi is based in the Publicitas Miami office and reports to Simon Taylor, CEO Europe & Americas at Publicitas.
