  • Rappi

On-demand delivery platform Rappi has appointed Ogilvy Mexico as its regional agency. Founded in 2015, the company nowadays operates in 23 cities in six LatAm countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay. Rappi landed the mexican market two years ago and has already more than one million users who make nearly 50,000 daily orders. It currently operates in the State of Mexico, Guadalajara, Querétaro, Monterrey, Mérida, Puebla and, of course, Mexico City. Rappi´s Marketing Director Carlos Leal is a member of Portada´s Brand Star Committee LatAm.

 

 

  • United Airlines

United Continental Holdings Inc is eying joint ventures with three Latin American carriers in the near future, Reuters has reported.United, the third-largest U.S. passenger carrier, is trying to finalize joint-venture agreements with Colombian airline Avianca Holdings , Panama’s Copa Airlines and Brazil’s Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras. Such deals would improve connectivity between the U.S. and Latin American aviation markets and create growth opportunities.United is looking to add lie-flat beds in business class in 2020 on some of its Boeing 737 MAX 10 narrow-bodies that would fly domestic routes.

 

 

  • Holiday Inn

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) announced the new opening of the 4-story, 196-room Holiday Inn Ciudad Juárez hotel. Located on Juarez Tecnologico Avenue 3620, Partido Iglesias neighborhood, and a few minutes from the Abraham Gonzalez International Airport serving Ciudad Juarez, the hotel opens following an investment made by its franchisee Fibra Inn of more than MX$ 211 million pesos.Owned by Fibra Inn and managed by Grupo Hotelero Prisma, the Holiday Inn Ciudad Juarez hotel is franchised by an affiliate of IHG. Fibra Inn, who currently has 15 hotels under the IHG family of brands, is one of the longest-standing owner groups in Mexico. The Holiday Inn brand is part of IHG’s diverse family of brands in nearly 100 countries and territories.

  • Iberia

Iberia is boosting its services to Latin America with three additional weekly flights to both Buenos Aires and Mexico City. As of 27 October, the Spanish airline will raise the number of flights from 14 to 17 times a week to Buenos Aires, which it has served since 1946. Iberia is also scheduling 17 flights a week between Madrid and Mexico City for the 2018/2019 winter season, three more than in the past .Iberia is the leading airline on routes linking Europe and Latin America, with 254 flights each week to destinations in 16 countries. In addition to its Buenos Aires and Mexico City routes, the airline is adding flights to Santiago, Chile (from one daily flight to 10 per week), Rio de Janeiro (from four to five times a week) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (24% more seats than in the 2018 summer season), On 1 October it will also launch daily flights to Guatemala City (currently four flights per week).

 

  • Norwegian

Low-cost Norwegian Air is interested in operating domestic flights within Brazil, as it plans its debut in Latin America’s largest economy in March with a flight between Sao Paolo and England.The airline’s interest was made public by Brazil’s tourism minister Vinicius Lummertz, who said Norwegian can start operating international flights with approval earlier this month from Brazilian flights regulator Anac.Norwegian has not specified the destination in England.Foreign airlines cannot incorporate in Brazil, but Congress is reviewing a proposal to change the law. If approved, Lummertz said, Norwegian could slash domestic flight costs by half.The Brazilian domestic market is dominated by four main airlines, Latam Airlines Group SA, Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes SA, Azul SA and Avianca Holdings SA, all of which posted net losses in the most recent quarter, due to higher oil prices and local currency devaluation.

  • Qatar Airways & Iberia

Qatar Airways and Iberia announced the expansion of their codeshare partnership, offering Iberia customers increased connectivity to destinations across the Middle East and Asia, as well as providing enhanced accessibility for Qatar Airways passengers to key destinations across Latin America, including Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay and Panama.Further strengthening the airline’s codeshare partnership and enhancing both carriers’ oneworld relationship, the new codeshare destinations can already be booked. The Qatar Airways’ code (QR) ill be applied to routes operated by Iberia from Madrid to Panama City, Panama; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Bogota Medellin (MDE), Colombia; Montevideo, Uruguay; and Santo Domingo; Dominican Republic. Qatar Airways currently offers double daily flights from Doha direct to Madrid. From July, this will increase to 17 times weekly.The enhanced partnership will also benefit members of both airlines’ frequent flyer programmes – Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Iberia Plus – as well as provide passengers with increased accessibility to Qatar Airways’ award-winning hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA), and Iberia’s hub at Madrid Airport Terminal 4.

  • Boulevard Hotéis

Online bookings are on the up for a hotel group located in one of Brazil’s largest cities, only months after launching new hotel websites powered by the global hotel industry’s leading cloud platform, SiteMinder. Boulevard Hotéis, which caters for both leisure and corporate travelers in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, reports online bookings have grown 38 percent and the group is showcasing the best it has to offer for the first time. Boulevard Hotéis has three properties – Boulevard Park, Boulevard Plaza and Boulevard Express – which employ SiteMinder’s integrated direct booking solutions to attract and convert guests on each of their hotel websites. Boulevard Hotéis offers more than 200 rooms and 14 event spaces which are enjoying greater visibility online, thanks to the search engine optimization (SEO) capability built into SiteMinder’s hotel website creator. The group is one of several deals won by SiteMinder in Latin America, where its smart and simple solutions are supporting hotel businesses across the region to compete for guests internationally.

  • Air China

On 5 April, 2018 Air China will launch a new route from Beijing to Panama City via Houston. The new route is expected to greatly facilitate exchanges between both countries as well as neighbouring regions, while providing passengers with a greater range of options.In June 2017, China and Panama signed the Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Panama. This formal establishment of diplomatic relations carries forth a relationship that dates back more than 160 years into a new era. China is Panama’s second largest trading partner and the second largest user of the Panama Canal, while Panama is China’s largest trading partner in Central America. In 2017, bilateral trade amounted to nearly US $6.7 billion, while two-way passenger traffic totalled nearly 40,000, growing at an annual rate of almost 30%.Air China currently operates over 200 weekly flights to 12 destinations in the Americas, including New York (Newark Airport and JFK Airport), Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Hawaii, Vancouver, Montreal, Havana and Sao Paulo. Moreover, its modern, airy cabins and outstanding service ensure that passengers can travel in supreme comfort.

  • Cinemark

Agency Richards Lerma, led by Pete Lerma and Aldo Quevedo, has won the Cinemark account to manage the entire social network for Latin America. The agency will work on the strategy and consumer awareness in this region. In addition, the agency will work on digital content and social networks in collaboration with the team in each country.

 

 

  • Inchcape PLC

Inchcape PLC is expanding further in Latin America with the acquisition of Grupo Rudelman, a Suzuki-focused automotive distribution business in Central America for a total consideration of US$284mln (£201mln), on a cash-free and debt-free basis.In a statement, the FTSE 250-listed global car dealer said the cash consideration represents approximately 9.6x the target group’s EBIT of US$29.4mln for the 12 months to 31 December 2017.It said Grupo Rudelman, a family-run business, has grown into one of the leading and most successful automotive distributors in Central America having built and maintained strong market positions and scale as the distributor and exclusive retailer for Suzuki in both Costa Rica and Panama.

  • McDonald’s Argentina

Arcos Dorados kicked off a review of its communication agencies in most of its’ Latin American markets. TBWA network has been awarded McDonald’s Argentinian market and platform at a regional level (through its Buenos Aires office), as well as Uruguayan, Venezuelan and Puerto Rican markets. In Uruguay, TBWA has also added digital duties.  Incumbent OMD has handled McDonald’s ad-buying business for more than a decade in the U.S. and globally. However, last October, the fast-food chain said it will conduct a review of its US$2 billion global media buying account.

 

 

 

  • Tito’s Handmade Vodka

Tito’s Handmade Vodka is set to expand its South American travel retail business in 2018.Tito’s, in collaboration with regional duty-free distributor Edrington Travel Retail Americas, will launch in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay through Dufry. The partnership builds on existing retail partners, including UETA, DFASS, Bernabel, London Supply and Motta. The craft vodka brand has also confirmed new business in Chile and Peru domestic markets.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Glovo  

Spanish start-up Glovo has landed in Buenos Aires with its “multi-delivery on-demand” format. Glovo is an on-demand service that purchases, picks-up and delivers anything that is ordered through the app. The app, which is available on Google Play and Apple Store, continues expanding its operations in Latin America and is already working in Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Bolivia. The company’s goal is to reach more than 30 cities throughout Latin America. The company, created by the young Spaniard Oscar Pierre, was inspired by the American business model and applications such as Airbnb or Uber.

 

  • Cathay Pacific Airways

Discover the World and Cathay Pacific Airways have launched their new sales and marketing representation in Ecuador. This marks the 14th country in Latin America where Discover the World represents Cathay Pacific and its regional subsidiary, Cathay Dragon.Discover the World has also launched a portfolio of holidays to Chile, which signals a gradual expansion into Latin America since March 2017, when Discover the World started representing Cathay in Mexico.

  • Iberia

Iberia will launch a new route from London to Managua, Nicaragua, via Madrid in October, with three return flights per week.The new Iberia flight will be the sole direct link between Europe and Nicaragua, which is becoming a popular adventure and cultural tourist destination, offering great beaches for sun and surfing, climbing in the country’s volcanoes and hills, as well as charming colonial cities like Granada, founded in 1524.The Spanish airline is a market leader for flights between Europe and Latin America and is part of the IAG Group along with British Airways, Vueling, Aer Lingus and LEVEL.

 

 

 

  • Radisson Blu

Mexican real estate and investment firm Sun-Star Group, led by real estate developer Omar O’Rourke Martinez and his partner Thomas Wahl, celebrated the groundbreaking of the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Ajijic, a luxury hotel at Lake Chapala, a popular destination located within 50 kilometers of Guadalajara, Mexico’s second-largest city.The resort is slated to open during the fourth quarter of 2019 and is estimated to create 200 construction and 80 full-time jobs.The Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Ajijic is the Sun-Star Group’s first property as part of its multi-unit agreement with Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.

descargaMiami-based agency Markham & Stein has been appointed Latin American agency of record for Porsche, after a creative review.The shop will handle the luxury auto brand’s integrated  marketing work for 17 importers in 23 countries across Latin American and the Caribbean. Cramer-Krasselt has been Porsche’s creative AOR since 2007.The review was the end result of an effort by Porsche to reorganize its promotional operations in Latin America by centering all related efforts in Miami.Markham & Stein was the only agency in the review that does not identify as Hispanic. However, the agency employs many Latino Americans in Miami and also has operations in Puerto Rico. The past June, PHD won the US$3 billion Volkswagen global media account. The agency handles strategy and media buying duties for VW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, which are part of the larger Volkswagen business around the world.

Currently, Iberia, which leads the airline industry in traffic between Latin America and Europe with 250 weekly flights, has 16,500 employees, a figure lower than before its restructuring, when there were 20,500 people on the payroll.In 2015, Iberia was the second-most-punctual airline in the world and was ranked as the most punctual in Europe, and today its 136 aircraft offer 600 daily flights to 125 destinations.

descargaServing 20 destinations in 15 Latin American countries, Iberia airline is revamping its services with the aim of transforming itself into “the” business airline between Europe and the Americas.To accomplish this task, the company – which is part of the International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A., or IAG, conglomerate – is taking the time to recraft its on-board service offerings: For instance, the business service includes completely level beds 2 meters (6.5 feet) long, 15.4-inch touch screens and a broad range of a la carte entertainment, as well as a food service with gourmet recipes including the best Spanish wines.The incorporation of the new Airbus A330/200, the most modern aircraft in the firm’s fleet, which will operate on the Central American route and elsewhere, will enable the airline to improve its on-board offerings with high-speed WiFi enabling travelers to continue their online session on several devices to respond to emails, review presentations and documents, receive and send photos or use the social networks.In gearing itself to serve the business sector, Iberia is also providing “specific offerings” for small and medium-sized companies to enable them to benefit from “discounts” and promotions.

  • Delta Air Lines

Delta has expanded Delta Comfort+ fares to more markets, making it easier to shop and buy Delta’s menu of products. Customers can now purchase Delta Comfort+ flights for travel on or after Sept.19, 2016, to and from the Asia-Pacific and Latin America/Caribbean regions. This evolutionary step expands on the airline’s recent launch of Delta Comfort+ fares within the U.S. and Canada.Delta Comfort+ now available as a fare for flights to Asia and Latin America.In March 2015, Delta introduced Delta Comfort+ as the airline’s industry that offers Sky Priority boarding with dedicated overhead bin space; extra legroom; free craft beer, wine and spirits; complimentary snacks; and complimentary premium entertainment on most flights*. In November 2015, Delta began selling Delta Comfort+ as a fare for travel in the U.S. and Canada beginning on May 16.Delta, which currently sells Delta Comfort+ as a fare within the U.S. and Canada, will now offer the product for flights on or after Sept. 19, 2016 for travel:Between the U.S. and Canada and Latin America/Caribbean regions, excluding Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Chile.

  • MoneyGram/Walmart Mexico

MoneyGram and Walmart Mexico have extended their agreement to provide MoneyGram receive services at many Walmart locations in the country until 2018. The new contract ensures customers will continue to enjoy the same quick, convenient and reliable money transfer services at most of their favorite Walmart Mexico locations. MoneyGram receive services have been available inside all of Walmart’s five different branded stores in Mexico since the companies signed their first contract in 2000.  Customers will continue to receive pay outs at Walmart Super Centers, Bodega Aurrera, mi Bodega Aurrera, Superama and Suburbia locations.

  • DineEquity® 

DineEquity, Inc. ®, a full service restaurant companies, will entered the Panama market with the first IHOP® restaurant (“IHOP)” opened on May 23 in Panama City.  The restaurant is one of six IHOP locations planned for Panama during the next five years under an agreement with franchise partner Collins Rada Group Inc. and its affiliates. Located in Costa del Este, Avenida Centenario, Rada Plaza, Ciudad de Panamá, the restaurant is expected to bring 150 new jobs to the economy as well as additional tax revenue and ongoing local spending on supplies, ingredients and marketing and other services. The IHOP restaurant will be the latest “California Heritage” model which pays tribute to the brand’s heritage given that the first IHOP restaurant opened in Southern California in 1958.  The restaurant will seat approximately 205 guests and will be open daily from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm.

The company aims to export a total of 50,000 units of the model this year, over two-fold increase from last year.The new export market is a testimony to the company’s commitment to providing the highest quality standards to global customers.GM India already exports the left-hand drive Beat to countries like Mexico, Chile, Peru, Central American and Caribbean Countries (CAC), Uruguay and now Argentina.

descargaSpanish airline Iberia will christen one of its newest planes “Puerto Rico” to celebrate this month’s resumption of direct flights from Madrid to San Juan.The return to the island coincides with the 70th anniversary of the launch of Iberia’s service between Europe and Latin America.The government of Puerto Rico has estimated that Iberia’s return will contribute roughly US$21 million a year to the island’s battered economy.

  • Aeropostale

descarga (5)Clothing and accessories retail chain Aeropostale Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.The company says it plans to use US$160 million as “debtor in possession” loans to keep the business operating as it wends its way through the bankruptcy process.Aeropostale US 14 stores are part of a more than 700-store chain in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Licensees operate another 300 Aéropostale locations in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. The bankruptcy filing makes no mention of closing stories or firing employees.The filing follows a 2015 that was not kind to the retailer.Net sales for fiscal 2015 decreased 18 percent to US$1.507 billion, from US$1.839 billion in 2014. The company reported a net loss for fiscal 2015 of US$136.9 million.

descarga (4)GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes S.A., a low-cost airline in Latin America, has announced the final phase of the comprehensive restructuring plan begun in mid-2015. This phase includes the restructuring of up to US$780mm of unsecured bonds issued in the international capital markets. GOL’s USD unsecured bondholders now have the opportunity to exchange their securities for new secured bonds at a premium to their current market value. The USD unsecured bonds are the last major group to be approached in GOL’s comprehensive financial restructuring.On May 3, 2016, GOL began the final component of its restructuring plan. This component, which is the restructuring of US$780 million of its outstanding USD bonds, is an important transaction for the Company. Furthermore, GOL reached an agreement with Smiles in which GOL will be able to make advance ticket sales, subject to the level of cash benefits generated by its restructuring, including the results of the Exchange Offer.
