The selection process considered the presence of each agency’s network in the region where LATAM Airline Group companies operate.LATAM’s new marketing and communications partner will be responsible for planning, creative, media, performance, social networks and CRM in the 24 countries where TAM and LAN currently operate.The IPG team will be led by McCann Worldgroup and IPG Mediabrands, and includes talent and tools from McCann, Initiative, Reprise, Cadreon, MRM//McCann and Craft, as well as from a senior IPG corporate executive.

aqyNWPod_400x400The Spanish cruise line Pullmantur, owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises, has announced that Vizeum, which belongs to Aegis Dentsu Network, is the media agency chosen to promote Antilles and South Caribbean in Latin America. The campaign will be held in Argentina, Chile , Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Panamá, Costa Rica, Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala, between September 2015 and April 2016. The main media in which it will develop will be press, OOH and video to activate digital and social networks. This destination starts and ends in Panama, and is available at Colón, Cartagena de Indias, Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba ports.

  • El Banco Industrial/ Argentina

Nexos is part of Star Holding, the biggest group of advertising and communications firms in the Panamanian market, which maintains a solid relationship with the WPP Group through the representation of several WPP brands. Thus, Grey Latin America reaffirms its commitment to the region and the expansion of the network. Nexos Grey is both a dynamic and strategic advertising agency with over 30 years of experience. FqSJ6RLo_400x400Pereira & O’Dell has been named the new global creative agency for clothing and footwear brand Timberland after a review.The agency will manage the account out of its New York office, which will be responsible for brand and seasonal strategy across multiple channels including digital, print and outdoor, according to a statement.The brand in 2013 launched a rebranding called “Best Then. Better Now.”Pereira & O’Dell, according to the company, will develop bold, innovative campaigns with these findings in mind to further Timberland’s evolution. Work is expected to launch in Spring 2016.Last year, Timberland, which is owned by VF Corp., named MDC Partners’ Assembly as its media agency as the company sought a more digital-centric strategy. The company in recent years has not have a global agency of record. VF Corp. spent a total of about US$123.2 million on U.S. measured media last year, according to Kantar Media. Its biggest brand by spending is Lee, which had close to US$41 million in measured media spend. Wrangler is the second biggest spender with about US$31 million. Timberland, according to Kantar, is on the smaller end of the spending spectrum, with about US$10 million spent on measured media in the U.S. in 2014.

Kiwi tour firm launches unique ‘Bike Ecuador and Colombia’ cycle tour.A New Zealand tour operator specialising in South American trips has successfully pioneered a new month-long cycle tour of Ecuador and Colombia.Latin Link, run by Wanaka-based Gary and Francis Tate, has been running tours to the continent since the early 90’s.As a long-time mountain biker, Gary had ridden parts of Ecuador in 2013, and had visited Colombia a number of times.Mr Tate says that in fact the fully-guided tour had been a long time in the planning; issues to overcome included “finding decent quality bikes” in the two countries, and “being able to link all the stops together in a cost-effective manner. “

Horizon and Innocean are partnering in a joint venture to create media agency Canvas Worldwide with Hyundai and Kia North America as its first first clients.

  • MillerCoors: Henry’s Hard Ginger Ale and Henry’s Hard Orange Soda

MillerCoors, the Chicago-based joint venture best known for Miller Lite and Coors Light, plans to start selling Henry’s Hard Ginger Ale and Henry’s Hard Orange sodas in six packs of 12-ounce bottles (suggested retail price $8.99) and in 16-ounce individual cans to retailers across the country in January. Backed with a national ad campaign that will feature spots on television and digital marketing, MillerCoors is aiming its products at Gen Xers who grew up drinking soda and now have more disposable income to spend on boozy alternatives. HillaryHillary Clinton has hired an experienced operative to lead Hispanic media for her campaign, adding Harry Reid’s senior adviser for Latino media, Jorge Silva, the campaign has confirmed, the Yucatan Times reports. Silva, who starts working today, is the latest example of the campaign’s focus on bringing on Hispanic staffers and gives it a deeply experienced team in the crucial swing state of Nevada.He developed and implemented Hispanic media strategy in states like Colorado, New Mexico, and some parts of California, in addition to Nevada, as the senior strategist for the Senate Democratic Caucus. Nathaly Arriola, who worked with Silva under Reid and served on Obama’s Hispanic media team during his reelection campaign, said he has been behind the scenes for every major push the Democratic Party has engaged in when it comes to the Latino community during the last four to five years. She said the Obama campaign modeled their Hispanic strategy after Reid’s successful 2010 reelection with a focus on regional and district-specific approaches to Latino media — something the sprawling Clinton operation can make use of.

descarga (3)Wheaties has partnered with a craft brewer to sell a beer called HefeWheaties that will be made by the Fulton brewery in Minneapolis and sold in Minnesota’s Twin Cities market for a limited time, according to Wheaties-owner General Mills.The beer is a Hefeweizen, a style “typically brewed with over 50 percent malted wheat, making it a natural fit for Wheaties,” according to General Mills.Ingredients include malted wheat, malted barley and hops from Germany, the U.S. and Australia.The idea came from Tony Libera, who manages the social media accounts for Wheaties and has a friend at Fulton, according to General Mills.

descarga (4)Interpublic has created a new agency group led by McCann Worldgroup and IPG Mediabrands to work for LATAM Airlines, which is now the largest airline group in Latin America after the consolidation of the LAN and TAM airlines.IPG won the business after a review, that began in March, which involved five agency holding companies. IPG’s bespoke agency team will be named Graphene and is responsible for global planning, creative, media, performance, social networks and CRM in the 24 countries where TAM and LAN currently operate. Working with Graphene, LATAM Airlines will roll out a new corporate brand image initiative over the next three years.The changes will start to be visible in the first half of 2016.The Chilean-based airline company is not considered a conflict with McCann Erickson client American Airlines, which the agency is defending in a creative review. LATAM and American are both part of the Oneworld Alliance, as is Cathay Pacific, which McCann also handles.The IPG team will include Worldgroup entities Reprise, Cadreon, MRM//McCann and Craft. It will be overseen by IPG svp, managing director Terry Peigh.

The add shows an aspiring football pro leveraging his creative skills to take on some of the sport’s icons including Leo Messi, Gareth Bale, Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil and James Rodriguez — and even NBA pro Ricky Rubio.Directed by Smuggler‘s Henry-Alex Rubin, the spot goes under the message that athletes need to “unfollow your heroes” and carve out their own path in order to achieve greatness.The new ad is part of the next phase of the Sport15 campaign that began in February with former agency 180 L.A. The new campaign’s focus on “potential greatness” seems to echo recent work for Adidas Originals, created out of Johannes Leonardo, in which Pharrell “passes the baton” of superstardom to up-and-coming artists. From June 10, 2019 ConnectMiles Members can earn miles when exchanging currency in all Travelex stores at Tocumen International Airport, Panama.The program will allow passengers at Tocumen Airport exchanging currency with Travelex, to earn miles in the Copa Airlines loyalty program “ConnectMiles”.The companies will monitor the program in Panama with an eye on expanding the program in other airport locations.

Marriott International has revealed Homes & Villas by Marriott International, a home rental initiative with 2,000 premium and luxury homes located in more than 100 destinations throughout the United States, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. Starting next week when the offering launches, members of Marriott Bonvoy can earn and redeem points at these highly curated homes, providing more choice of accommodations that suit a range of travel needs around the world. Marriott’s expansion into home rentals was developed as a result of the 2018 pilot under the brand extension Tribute Portfolio Homes. The introduction of Homes & Villas by Marriott International adds nearly 40 new leisure destinations for Marriott Bonvoy members to earn and redeem points, including Sorrento, Italy and the Amalfi Coast, Italy; North Lake Tahoe, CA; and St. Barts in the Caribbean.

Selina, the Latin-American hospitality startup that combines beautifully-designed accommodation with coworking, recreation, wellness and local experiences, announced plans to expand into the U.K., signing four new locations in Liverpool, Birmingham and in Manchester. Selina partnered with Aroundtown and Altshuler-Shaham Properties to acquire a US$40 million portfolio of hotels operating under the Hatters brand to kick off its expansion efforts in the region.Set to rebrand as Selina in the second half of 2019, Selina will bring its signature Latin American aesthetic to each of the locations in partnership with emerging local artists and designers.Selina’s expansion to the U.K. comes on the heels of a US$100 million series C funding round, which was led by Access Industries, with participation from Grupo Weise and existing investors  Colony Latam Partners. In addition to the U.K., 2019 will see Selina open a further 31 properties in Germany, Portugal, Greece, Israel, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, in tandem with expansion into new European and Latin American markets and an entrance in Asia by 2020. Founded in Latin America in 2015 by Rafael Museri and Daniel Rudasevski, Selina has rapidly expanded around the world, operating 46 locations in 13 countries.

  • Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines is dropping its service to Mexico City from its hub at Houston Hobby Airport. Houston is the only city currently offering nonstop service to Mexico City in Southwest’s Latin America route network. Southwest made the announcement in its most recent earnings call, when CEO Gary Kelly reported that the route would end March 31. During the call Kelly said that the airline was focusing on leisure destinations, while Mexico City had been more of a business travel market.Southwest serves Mexico City from Houston Hobby four times daily. All told, the airline serves Mexico from a total of 21 peak and seasonal cities in the United States, with its most recent addition being new service between Chicago Midway and San Jose del Cabo.

 

  • Expedia

Travel website Expedia have quietly stopped selling airline tickets for Venezuela amid recent political turmoil. Washington-based Expedia Group said the company was acting on behalf of travelers’ wellbeing and in accordance with recent travel advice by foreign governments about crime and civil unrest.American Airlines, with two flights daily from Caracas to Miami, is the only remaining U.S. carrier providing service to the country after Delta and United Airlines pulled out in 2017 amid a political crisis that has forced millions to flee the country.

 

 

 

  • Hilton

Hilton and Atlantica Hotels announced the signing of a management license agreement whereby Atlantica plans to develop and manage DoubleTree by Hilton hotels in Brazil. As part of this agreement, the companies also announced the first planned DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Porto Alegre, Brazil. This agreement will introduce DoubleTree by Hilton in Brazil, underscoring Hilton’s continued commitment in the Caribbean and Latin America to introduce the company’s industry-leading brands across the region.DoubleTree by Hilton joins Atlantica’s portfolio of 19 brands represented by 120 hotels in Brazil, including Hilton Garden Inn. Hilton and Atlantica have opened four Hilton Garden Inn hotels in Brazil, including the recently-debuted, 153-room Hilton Garden Inn Itajaí, located near Brava Beach, Hilton Garden Inn Goiania, Hilton Garden Inn Belo Horizonte and Hilton Garden Inn Santo André. The companies plan to open two additional Hilton Garden Inn hotels in Fortaleza and São Paulo.Scheduled to open in 2021, the first DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Brazil will be located at Padre Cacique Avenue, in the city of Porto Alegre and Rio Grande do Sul state. Hilton currently has a portfolio of more than 140 hotels and resorts open to welcome travelers in the Caribbean and Latin America, including seven hotels in Brazil. Mexico-based restaurant brands operator Grupo MYT has secured a significant strategic investment from global private equity firm L Catterton.The restaurant company will use the funds to support and accelerate its expansion and growth across Mexico. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.Established in 2003, Grupo MYT designs and operates various restaurant models for the casual food segment in the country. It was founded by brothers Carlos, Andrés and Alfredo Mier y Terán. Brands operated by the company include Japanese casual dining restaurant Moshi Moshi; casual Mexican restaurant and cantina La Imperial; full-service multi-genre food hall Cocina Abierta; and La Crepe Parisienne kiosk format.L Catterton has made investments in various Latin American restaurant brands such as Cholula, Luigi Bosca, St. Marche, Rapsodia, Femme – Laboratório da Mulher, Espaçolaser, and Bodytech.

On-demand delivery platform Rappi has appointed Ogilvy Mexico as its regional agency. Founded in 2015, the company nowadays operates in 23 cities in six LatAm countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay. Rappi landed the mexican market two years ago and has already more than one million users who make nearly 50,000 daily orders. It currently operates in the State of Mexico, Guadalajara, Querétaro, Monterrey, Mérida, Puebla and, of course, Mexico City. United Continental Holdings Inc is eying joint ventures with three Latin American carriers in the near future, Reuters has reported.United, the third-largest U.S. passenger carrier, is trying to finalize joint-venture agreements with Colombian airline Avianca Holdings , Panama’s Copa Airlines and Brazil’s Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras. Such deals would improve connectivity between the U.S. and Latin American aviation markets and create growth opportunities.United is looking to add lie-flat beds in business class in 2020 on some of its Boeing 737 MAX 10 narrow-bodies that would fly domestic routes.

 

 

  • Holiday Inn

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) announced the new opening of the 4-story, 196-room Holiday Inn Ciudad Juárez hotel. Located on Juarez Tecnologico Avenue 3620, Partido Iglesias neighborhood, and a few minutes from the Abraham Gonzalez International Airport serving Ciudad Juarez, the hotel opens following an investment made by its franchisee Fibra Inn of more than MX$ 211 million pesos.Owned by Fibra Inn and managed by Grupo Hotelero Prisma, the Holiday Inn Ciudad Juarez hotel is franchised by an affiliate of IHG. Fibra Inn, who currently has 15 hotels under the IHG family of brands, is one of the longest-standing owner groups in Mexico. The Holiday Inn brand is part of IHG’s diverse family of brands in nearly 100 countries and territories.

  • Iberia

Iberia is boosting its services to Latin America with three additional weekly flights to both Buenos Aires and Mexico City. As of 27 October, the Spanish airline will raise the number of flights from 14 to 17 times a week to Buenos Aires, which it has served since 1946. Iberia is also scheduling 17 flights a week between Madrid and Mexico City for the 2018/2019 winter season, three more than in the past .Iberia is the leading airline on routes linking Europe and Latin America, with 254 flights each week to destinations in 16 countries. In addition to its Buenos Aires and Mexico City routes, the airline is adding flights to Santiago, Chile (from one daily flight to 10 per week), Rio de Janeiro (from four to five times a week) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (24% more seats than in the 2018 summer season), On 1 October it will also launch daily flights to Guatemala City (currently four flights per week).

 

  • Norwegian

Low-cost Norwegian Air is interested in operating domestic flights within Brazil, as it plans its debut in Latin America’s largest economy in March with a flight between Sao Paolo and England.The airline’s interest was made public by Brazil’s tourism minister Vinicius Lummertz, who said Norwegian can start operating international flights with approval earlier this month from Brazilian flights regulator Anac.Norwegian has not specified the destination in England.Foreign airlines cannot incorporate in Brazil, but Congress is reviewing a proposal to change the law. If approved, Lummertz said, Norwegian could slash domestic flight costs by half.The Brazilian domestic market is dominated by four main airlines, Latam Airlines Group SA, Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes SA, Azul SA and Avianca Holdings SA, all of which posted net losses in the most recent quarter, due to higher oil prices and local currency devaluation.

  • Lenovo

Chinese multinational technology company Lenovo has appointed Publicis Media to handle is global media strategy, planning and buying, as it consolidated agencies. Lenovo spends some US$125 million on advertising annually globally and Publicis Media will set up a new dedicated unit, Lenovo One Media, to handle the account. The unit will combine staff from Publicis Media agencies Spark Foundry and Performics. It will be responsible for 28 markets across the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Asia and Asia Pacific. Both traditional and digital media platforms are included as part of the account. Lenovo One Media will be overseen by Andre Marciano who will serve as chief operating officer.

 

 

  • Rappi

Colombian platform Rappi has just been launched in Chile. The service was launched in Santiago and allows home delivery from supermarkets, pharmacies, liquor stores, kiosks, warehouses, among other shops. Rappi is a platform that was born as a startup. It was created by Colombians Simón Borrero (CEO), Sebastián Mejía and Felipe Villamarín, in Bogotá. It was the first company to reach a million orders delivered in LATAM. It currently operates in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and now, in Chile. With nearly 2 million downloads in Latin America, Rappi promises an average delivery time of 35 minutes for restaurants and liquor stores.   • GOL Airlines

Boeing and GOL Airlines announced that the Brazilian carrier is adding the newest and largest member of the 737 MAX family with a new contract that converts 30 current MAX orders to the 737 MAX 10. GOL also placed a new order for 15 more MAX 8 airplanes, growing GOL’s total MAX orders to 135. The Brazilian airline says the advanced airplanes will help GOL meet its commitment to further enhance operational efficiency by flying a young, modern and safe fleet.GOL took delivery of its first 737 MAX airplane last month, kicking off a fleet renewal that will continue through 2028. The all-Boeing operator is set to be the largest MAX operator in Latin America. The 737 MAX is the fastest-selling airplane in Boeing history, with 100 customers ordering more than 4,600 jets.

 

 

  • Radisson 

Radisson announced the opening of Radisson Hotel Panama Canal. The hotel has a prime location in Panama City with breathtaking views of the Panama Canal, along with being just minutes away from Albrook International Airport. It is also within walking distance to the Amador Convention Center, which is scheduled to open December 2018. The hotel was originally a Country Inn & Suites by Radisson and recently completed a nearly $2 million renovation to convert the property into a Radisson.”We are honored to open our doors under the Radisson brand in the beautiful Panama City,” said Guillermo Quijano Duran, the hotel’s vice president. “The hotel’s new look features the brand’s natural tones and a design that puts the guest experience at the forefront allowing them to relax and create memorable moments throughout their stay.”

Spanish startup Glovo, whose platform lets app users summon a gig economy worker to shop on their behalf, has bagged a €115 million (US$134M) Series C round of funding. The lead investors in the Series C are Rakuten Capital, Seaya Ventures and Cathay Innovation, which had also invested in its Series B.The startup says the new funding will be put towards optimizing its platform and tech resources to improve the service to riders, users and associated stores.It also plans to use the funds to fuel its momentum, noting it’s opened up six countries and 20 cities around the world in just three months. Its regions of focus are Latin America and EMEA areas (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), and its app is available in 61 cities in 17 countries in all at this stage.

Nike-owned sneaker brand Converse has replaced previous global media agency, Omnicom’s PHD, with IPG’s Initiative, Ad Age first reported. The account was put into review in early 2018.  PHD, which won the Converse media business away from Starcom in 2015, did not participate. Converse U.S. anual spend is US$20 million. Nike is planning to ramp up digital advertising for Converse, according to Adage.

Spirit Airlines is expanding service from Orlando to Latin America, the Caribbean and the southeastern U.S.Officials with the airline announced that it would start flying from Orlando to Panama, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Colombia.In the Caribbean, the airline will start flying from Orlando to St. Thomas and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.In the southeastern U.S., the airline will start flying from Orlando to Greensboro, North Carolina, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.Spirit CEO Bob Fornaro says Orlando is now one of the airline’s largest markets. He says Orlando is well positioned to serve as a gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean.

Copa Airlines, a subsidiary of Copa Holdings, S.A. and a member of the global Star Alliance network, will operate daily flights between Curaçao and Panama City as of July 17, 2018, offering its passengers more flight options, with convenient schedules and greater connectivity with the rest of the continent.Passengers traveling between Panama and Curaçao will now enjoy more convenient, flexible schedules starting July 17. Copa Airlines will operate daily flights from Panama to Curaçao, departing at 9:13 am and arriving at 12:18 pm (local time), and from Curaçao to Panama, departing at 1:18 pm and arriving at 2:30 pm (local time).Copa Airlines currently operates an average of 350 daily flights through the Hub of the Americas, founded in 1992 and located at the Tocumen International Airport. German soccer side Bayern Munich have announced a “unique content and sales” partnership with Perform Group, focusing on Latin America (LATAM).The deal will allow brands to use the UK-based digital sports media company’s platforms, as well as providing them with the opportunity to engage with the Bundesliga outfit.Bayern Munich opened their first international office in 2014 in New York to service the Americas, with a primary focus on building the infrastructure in North America in order to replicate the model in Latin America.The club said their aims are to “build presence and increase the fan base in LATAM through local language digital platforms and mutually beneficial partnerships.”Bayern have supporter clubs in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Cuba, Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Venezuela.

  • PUMA

Puma, designer and manufacturer of athletic and casual footwear, apparel and accessories, has kicked off a global media pitch, according to people familiar with the matter.Until May, Puma was part of Kering, a Paris-based marketer of luxury goods including leather goods, fashion, shoes, jewelry and watches under such brands as Gucci, Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta. Kering last month spun off Puma as a standalone public company, reducing Kering’s stake to about 16 percent from 86 percent. Publicis´ Blue 449 is the incumbent on the account.Puma’s global media spending is around US$120 million.

 

  • Turkish Airlines

Colombian authorities have requested Turkish Airlines (THY) to increase the number of direct flights between Istanbul and Bogota, according to THY America Sales Marketing Vice President Mustafa Doğan.In response to the request, Doğan said that THY was pleased with the demand in Istanbul-Bogota flight and will take a more active role in the region.The national flag carrier will examine Colombia’s demand on technical and commercial terms. The only reason the company is not so active in Latin America is distance and the limitations of current aircraft technology.Flying to 303 destinations in 120 countries, THY holds the title of the airline flying to the most destinations in the world.

 

  • Dream Hotel Group

Hotel and brand management company Dream Hotel Group and Mexico-based Tamayo Desarrollos have set plans to open the next Chatwal hotel in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, in 2020.Dream has chosen architecture, planning and design firm CallisonRTKL to design the new hotel. The signing of The Chatwal San Miguel de Allende follows Dream Hotel Group’s latest announcement to develop three new hotels in Latin America: Unscripted Tulum in Mexico, Unscripted Belize and Dream Belize. The 24-room Unscripted Belize is slated to open in late 2018 while the 100-room Dream Belize and the 97-room Unscripted Tulum are both scheduled to open in 2020. Dream Hotel plans to sign another 50 hotels and resorts worldwide across its brands Dream Hotels, Time Hotels, The Chatwal and Unscripted Hotels over the next five years.

Boeing is expanding its commercial services capability in Latin America with new customer orders from GOL Airlines to use Boeing’s Airplane Health Management for its 737 MAX fleet and from Aeromexico to use Boeing’s landing gear exchange program for its 787 fleet. These announcements demonstrate the tremendous potential for services growth in this rapidly expanding region.According to Boeing’s 2017 Services Market Outlook, the Latin American commercial aviation services market is currently growing at five percent per year. Boeing expects the total aviation support and services market in the region to be worth US$530 billion by 2036.GOL Linhas Aereas S.A., Brazil’s largest domestic carrier, signed an agreement adding Airplane Health Management to its 737 MAX fleet. Aeromexico, the largest airline in Mexico, operates one of the most technologically-advanced fleets in the region and is a leading regional operator of the 787 Dreamliner.

 

 

  • LATAM Airlines

South American LATAM Airlines is scheduled to begin direct flights from Tel Aviv to São Paulo, Brazil, in December.LATAM will become the only airlines to operate direct flights between Israel and South America, with a flight taking off from Santiago, Chile, before making a stopover in São Paulo before flying direct to Tel Aviv.The first flight will depart on December 12, with three flights each week from Santiago via São Paulo to Tel Aviv on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.Flights from Israel to São Paolo – and from there to Santiago – will depart from Ben-Gurion Airport on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The flight duration will be around 11 hours. LATAM was founded in 2012 as part of the Oneworld airlines alliance that includes British Airways. The company plans on tapping into its network to offer connecting flights throughout Latin America.The carrier was formed from a merger between the Chilean LAN Airlines and the Brazilian TAM. It operates in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru. In 2016, Qatar Airways purchased a 10% stake in LATAM.

 

 

  • Didi Chuxing

Chinese ride-hailing company Didi Chuxing has publicly launched in Mexico with a website advertising its service to drivers and passengers, setting the stage for a potentially expensive showdown with rival Uber.A spokesman for Didi Chuxing Technology Co told Reuters that the company will launch first in Toluca, an urban hub located around 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the country’s capital. Didi has an operations hub in the trendy Juarez neighborhood in Mexico City.Didi settled on Toluca, the capital of the central state of Mexico, because it is a “robust regional commercial and cultural” center, said the spokesman, who declined to be named. Its priority will be to learn from local communities about their transportation needs, the spokesman said.The app will go live later this month, according to a source familiar with the plans.Didi is working to quickly recruit drivers with the promise of higher earnings than competitors are offering. The new Didi website says the company will take no cut of fares until June 17, and is offering bonuses to drivers who recruit other drivers and passengers, a common tactic for ride-hailing companies vying to gain market share.Uber is the ride-hailing leader in Mexico, where it has seven million users in more than three dozen cities. Uber held 87 percent of the market in Mexico in August, its highest share in Latin America, according to Dalia Research, a Berlin-based consumer research firm.

Trade, the media agency led by Marcelo Arroniz, has been chosen by Suzuki to plan and implement its media campaigns. Trade will begin working in the communication of Suzuki Vitara and the New Baleno.   • Campbell Soup Company

The Campbell Soup Company, also known as just Campbell’s, an American producer of canned soups and related products that are sold in 120 countries, has appointed Publicis Groupe to handle its’ creative and media business for many of its brands, following a competitive review, Ad Age first reported. Publicis will handle Campbell’s U.S. retail creative, along with that in Canada and Asia-Pacific. It will also handle Campbell’s digital, tech and consumer promotion business as well as media planning and buying for Campbell globally. Campbell’s incumbent media agency, WPP and GroupM’s MEC (now Wavemaker), which handled U.S. planning and buying since 1999, and global planning and buying since 2006, is out. Among Campbell’s brands Publicis will handle in the U.S. are Chunky soup, V8 beverages, Pace salsa, Prego sauces, Swanson broth and Spaghetti-O’s. It will also do media planning and buying for Pepperidge Farm but not creative. Campbell spends more than US$300 million on advertising in the U.S. alone.

 

  • P&G

P&G and IMS signed a commercial agreement with panregional aims to spread P&G’s marketing communications across all digital platforms exclusively managed by IMS. P&G will reach its audiences through 15, 20, 30 seconds video ads, that will guarantee a CPCV (Cost per completed view) on premium content ensuring brand safety and viewability.
The agreement will impact ten different Latin American markets where IMS manages platforms such as Spotify, Snapchat, Vevo, EA, Twitch, Twitter, Foursquare, Yahoo, Waze, as well as its own programmatic solution.

 

  • United Airlines

United Airlines will continue to expand its cabin segmentation initiatives, with plans to bring no frills fares to Latin American and European flights later this year.The expanded fare offerings coupled with the roll out of a new premium economy cabin on select international routes in the fourth quarter are part of United’s drive to generate roughly US$1 billion in incremental revenue from segmentation by 2020.The Star Alliance carrier plans to expand its basic economy fares, which lack attributes of standard economy fares like advanced seat assignments and carry-on bags and come with additional restrictions, to the two international geographies later in 2018, says United president Scott Kirby at the JP Morgan Aviation, Transportation and Industrials conference on 13 March.

 

 

  • Hyatt Hotels Corporation 

Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the opening of Hyatt Place Macaé in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. Hyatt Place Macaé is the first ocean-front Hyatt Place hotel in Latin America and the second Hyatt Place hotel in Brazil, joining Hyatt Place São José do Rio Preto, which opened in November 2016. The hotel is part of a larger master development agreement between Hyatt affiliates and Elandis to develop a total of nine Hyatt Place hotels across Brazil.Hyatt is currently represented in Brazil by two full-service luxury hotels Grand Hyatt São Paulo (466 rooms), Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro (436 rooms) and now by two select service hotels, including Hyatt Place São José do Rio Preto (152 rooms) and Hyatt Place Macaé (141 rooms).

Sao Paulo investment firm SouthRock Capital has signed an agreement with Starbucks Corp that gives it the right to develop and operate branches of the Seattle-based chain in Brazil, the companies said. With the agreement, whose value was not disclosed, all of Starbucks’ retail operations in Latin America are now wholly licensed rather than directly managed, the companies said.SouthRock founder Ken Pope said in a statement the fund would eye expansion opportunities in new and existing markets. Starbucks now has 113 stores across the populous states of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.SouthRock, founded in 2015, also owns Brazil Airport Restaurants, which operates in the country’s biggest airports.

IHG on February 20 announced that avid hotels, its new high-quality midscale brand, is now available for franchising in Mexico.The launch of the brand in Mexico closely follows the introduction of avid hotels in the U.S. and Canada last fall, where the company has already signed 75 franchise agreements. This milestone further demonstrates the brand’s rapid start and growth potential, according to IHG.The franchise fee for the brand will be five percent of gross rooms revenue, and all avid hotels franchise agreements for Mexico executed before Sept. 30, 2018, will be eligible for a two-point franchise fee discount in year one and a one-point franchise fee discount in year two. This incentive can only be earned if the hotel opens by Sept. 30, 2020.

 

  • Copa Holdings

Copa Holdings continued its strong operating momentum in the fourth quarter of 2017 in LatamThe number of flights, passengers, and miles flown were up, and the cost to fly was down, driving solid profitability. Stronger results were driven by a growing fleet, which allows for more available revenue miles. But costs were also down after management adjusted how long the company would depreciate aircraft. Here are the operating highlights to understand for the quarter:In January, Copa took delivery of a 737-800 aircraft, increasing the fleet size to 101. There isn’t a lot differentiating airlines, but Copa Holdings has distinguished itself as one of the best operators in the world.

Agency Vizeum Argentina, part of Dentsu Aegis Network group and led by Mario Freire, has been assigned Norwegian Airlines account. NewCo has unveiled its new global structure. In a move that underscores its commitment to cost efficiency, the new GroupM agency formed by MEC and Maxus will remove existing regional management structures. NewCo will not be run at the APAC, EMEA or LATAM levels. Instead, the firm’s top eight global markets that compromise 70 percent of its revenues will report directly to MEC global CEO Tim Castree.  NewCo will be able to lean on GroupM at the regional level for operational support. Remaining regional capabilities will now either move in-market or within client solutions groups. There will also be a new centralized global services structure made up of three groups.

Alaska Airlines has launched service to Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport from two major California hubs: San Francisco International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. Later this fall, Alaska Airlines will also add service from San Diego International Airport to Mexico City, becoming the only airline to serve Mexico City from all three California gateways. The launch to Mexico City kicks off the most significant network expansion in Alaska Air Group’s 85-year history with 29 new routes launching through the end of 2017.The new service is the ninth destination Alaska serves to Mexico from California, including Cancun, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Loreto, Los Cabos, Manzanillo, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara.

  • Discovery – Costa Rica Theme Park

Local investment firm Sun Latin America will be responsible for developing the 800-hectars (1,977-acre) project in the province of Guanacaste, a beach tourism destination some 225 kilometers (139.81 miles) north of the capital, the government said.The park, which will include hotels, eco-adventure activities, sports areas and restaurants, will generate some 2,000 jobs during its 2018-2020 construction, Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solís told a news conference.Discovery Communications and Sun Latin America did not provide details on their agreement.

Shares will trade on Brazil’s B3 stock exchange, until recently known as the BM&FBovespa, and on the New York Stock Exchange as “AZUL.” Azul investors sold 22.4 million shares, out of the 85.4 million. Azul said in IPO documents that it plans to use the net proceeds of the sale to cut debt of approximately 315 million reais and will use the rest for general corporate purposes.

Cabify, the transportation app with a presence in 11 Latin American countries and Spain, announced plans to invest US$200m in Brazil to fortify its presence in the country. Investors in Cabify include Variv Capital, Rakuten, Seaya Ventures, and others. Over the past twelve months theapp has seen unprecedented growth in terms of share mobility and volume of rides in Brazil. Consolidating the presence there is a core part of its’ strategy.

  • American Airlines

descarga (18)American Airlines Inc. plans to invest US$100 million in an aircraft maintenance center in Sao Paulo, touting it as a sign of confidence in Latin America’s largest economy despite Brazil’s recession and latest political turmoil.The US airline would set up its first maintenance center in South America at Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos airport, and would eventually offer services to other airlines.American Airlines spokesman Josh Freed said the No. 1 US airline by passenger traffic has plans to invest in Brazil but that he could not immediately confirm the amount.Four airports will be auctioned to private concessionaires on March 16 and the state company that manages Brazil’s airports will not take part for the first time.

mmmmWal-Mart plans to invest US$320 million in the Brazilian market over the next three years despite a drop in sales.Wal-Mart’s sales in Brazil dropped by 4.1 percent. Compared to increases by 8.9 percent across Mexico and Central America.The money will go towards re-branding its local branches with a stronger link to the American name.The company’s Brazilian director promises cheaper prices, a wider assortment of products, and more fresh produce. Wal-Mart arrived in Brazil in the mid-90s.

descargaCarsales, the online automotive, motorcycle and marine classifieds business in Australia,  is continuing its push into Latin America with the US$6.7 million acquisition of DeMotores which runs auto-classifieds websites in Argentina, Colombia and Chile.The purchase solidifies Carsales’ position in Latin America after it took majority stakes in Mexico-based auto-classifieds businesses SoloAutos and Chile’s largest online auto advertisements website, Chileautos in the 2016 financial year.The sale is for 100 per cent of Demotores businesses which were owned by an entity controlled by S.A. La Nacion, a news media group based in Argentina.Carsales will fund the purchase via exist cash reserves and debt facilities.Carsales said Argentina was an attractive place to invest because it had a high gross domestic product per capita and population relative to the region.

nhnhnAmerican Airlines is now taking reservations and selling regularly scheduled flights between Miami International Airport and five Cuban cities to start in September.Cheaper rates come with caveats, including final approval from the Cuban government for American’s new commercial flights to the island. There is also a minimum stay requirement of three nights or over a Sunday, and travel must be booked by Tuesday to take advantage of the sale. The discounts apply to travel between Sept. 7 and Nov. 15.

In Latin America, ARIAD and Pint Pharma International S.A., a company focused on innovative treatments for patients in Latin America with cancer, rare diseases, and genetic disorders, have entered into an agreement for Pint Pharma to commercialize Iclusig in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. Pint Pharma has received exclusive rights to commercialize Iclusig following regulatory approval in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico (the “Territory”), with the potential of adding other Latin American countries in the future. ARIAD and Pint have agreed to collaborate to submit marketing authorization approvals in the countries in the Territory. In addition, Pint has agreed to sell Iclusig as an investigational product on a named patient basis in certain countries in the territory where permitted prior to regulatory approval.In exchange for these rights, ARIAD will receive upfront and potential regulatory milestone payments totaling US$15 million. ARIAD will also receive more than 50 percent of net product sales in the Territory through a product supply transfer price.
