Thanks to a deal that was recently reached between Telefonica and mobile services company UpCode, Argentine mobile users will soon be utilizing features hitherto unavailable to even U.S. consumers

Though the agreement Movistar customers will be able to scan bidi codes with their phones through print, TV and billboards, and to download mobile content more quickly.

While mobile scanning features have long been talked about in the U.S., the technology has yet to be made widely available, and it is possible that the impetus for such adoption will come from newly arrived Latin Americans demanding the same capabilities they enjoy in their home countries.

Telefonica is a privately owned company that has about 249,000 employees and provides access to more than 233 million customers per month. Its headquarters are in Spain.
