While the popularity of social networking sites in the U.S. has tapered off somewhat, a recent ComScore study shows that these sites are growing quickly in Latin America.

While social networking sites grew by around 9% in the U.S. between 2007 and 2008, that figure was closer to 33% in Latin America, according to the ComScore report.

Facebook seems to be pulling out ahead of the pack, posting 1055% growth in unique visitors between ’07 and ’08. Whereas the site’s membership stood at just over 1 million in 2007, it has now reached almost 12 million users in the region.
