The first quarter of 2011 reported a total of 2.57 million subscribers for Venezuela's pay TV, a 6.1% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to Venezuela's National Telecommunications Committee the pay TV market reported an overall number of 2.57 million subscribers, 45,000 subscribers more than by the end of 2010.

The pay TV industry earned 147,000 subscribers over the last year, which translates into a 6.1% year-on-year increase. Service penetration has now reached 37.23% of all Venezuelan households and DIRECTV stands out as the market's largest provider, with over one million subscribers. Yet pay TV was not the only service to report growth figures. Internet also grew by 25.3% to 2.74 million subscribers. Mobile broadband services drew larger growth than fixed broadband.

Fixed telephony grew 3.9%, now reaching 7.17 million users and wireless phone services dropped 3%. Conatel says that the drop in mobile telephony is explained by "customer depuration" conducted by companies at the beginning of the year, while pre-paid services lead the mobile phone market with 93% share.
