Global Crossing, an IP solutions provider, today announced that the broadcast and media services offered by its Global Crossing Genesis Solutions unit are available in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela and the Caribbean region.

"The Latin American region represents a vast market opportunity for sports, entertainment and event programming," said Mike Antonovich, managing director of Global Crossing Genesis Solutions.  "We're excited to offer solutions that support both standard- and high-definition video programming from points all over the globe to Latin America, as well as Latin American-based programming out to the rest of the world."

Global Crossing Genesis Solutions' timing could not be better.  As Latin America prepares to host the 2011 Pan American games in Guadalajara, Mexico;  the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil; and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro; the high-definition television subscriber market is experiencing rapid growth in this part of the world.  In fact, according to Dataxis, a leading global market research company focused on the television, cable and satellite industries, the number of high-definition television subscribers in Latin America grew from 215,000 in 2009 to more than 3,000,000 in 2010, an impressive growth rate of 1,327%.
