Fox International Channels (FIC) has acquired full ownership of Spanish-language sports programming service Fox Pan American Sports from HM Capital Partners for an undisclosed sum and will launch Fox Sports in Brazil in February 2012.

Fox Sports, the Portuguese-language sports network, will broadcast live matches of the Copa Santander Libertadores and Copa Bridgestone Sudamericana across Brazil. In addition, it will carry racing programming from Speed Channel, including all NASCAR properties, and news programmes.

“We’ve had a successful partnership with HM Capital for many years,” says Fox Networks Group president and chief operating officer David Haslingden. “However, given the strategic importance of Latin America and Brazil and the power of sports programming to television audiences in the region, it made sense for us to acquire full ownership once the opportunity emerged.”

FIC has also made a number of key appointments to boost its Latin American team. Carlos Martinez has been promoted to president, FIC Latin America, while Emiliano Saccone will become president, entertainment, FIC Latin America. Eduardo Zebini will step in as vice-president and managing editor, Fox Sports Brazil.
