The Mexican wireless company América Móvil has purchased the Nicaraguan telecom company Grupo Estesa.
Grupo Estesa is best known for its role as provider of cable services, such as cable TV and broadband Internet. Grupo Estesa’s clients will now join América Móvil’s165.3 million cellular subscribers and 3.9 million fixed-line subscribers.
The purchase takes place against the backdrop of America Movil’s announcement that it will offer Apple’s highly-popular 3G iPhone to 10 additional countries in the region on August 22nd. The phone will be available in: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay, Perú y Uruguay.
