Value-driven engagement in shoppable TV is redefining how brands connect with streaming audiences. As TV streaming dominates content consumption, advertisers are evolving their strategies—moving from simple product placements to immersive commerce experiences that reward viewers with tangible value. A new nationwide study by Roku, Dentsu’s New Stream Media, and Luth Research, detailed in a release via BusinessWire.com, highlights how the future of TV advertising lies in personalization, seamless shopping integration, and value-based interaction. The full findings are outlined in the jointly released Shoppable TV Study 2024.
Personalization Is Only the Beginning
According to the study, 72% of consumers are more attentive to ads that align with their interests and past purchase behaviors, and 71% engage more with brands they’ve already bought from. However, relevance alone doesn’t guarantee attention. While 83% find personalized ads valuable, only 34% say they actually pay attention to them.
Shoppable TV: Utility Drives Deeper Engagement
What drives value in shoppable TV is utility. Consumers respond to incentives. Over half of viewers say they engage more with ads that help them discover what to watch or simplify the shopping process. Key incentives include free delivery (52%), coupons (48%), loyalty rewards (32%), and free movie rentals (30%).
These value exchanges reduce friction and enhance the viewer’s sense of reward, prompting them to transition from passive viewing to active buying.
Content-Driven Shopping Experiences Capture Attention
Nearly 50% of streamers said they pay attention to ads that allow them to shop for products featured in the content they’re watching—especially in categories like apparel and electronics. When the experience feels like an organic part of the show or event, engagement increases naturally.
This signals a shift in strategy: brands that integrate commerce into entertainment, rather than interrupt it, stand to gain more attention and loyalty.

Beyond Clicks: Building Long-Term Brand Equity
Even when viewers don’t immediately purchase, immersive shoppable ads deliver a 58% lift in unaided brand recall compared to standard video ads, according to Kantar Milward Brown Roku normative benchmarks. This proves that value-driven engagement in shoppable TV not only boosts conversions but also strengthens long-term brand equity.
Shoppable TV: A Platform for Performance and Brand Impact
As the lines between content and commerce blur, marketers are encouraged to think beyond traditional advertising. With platforms like Roku, they can tap into a hybrid of entertainment and utility that meets audiences where they are—on the biggest screen in the home—with meaningful, measurable outcomes.
