In the final installment of Is Storytelling Dead?, Santiago Durán* —clinical psychologist and senior marketer—moves from analysis to execution, introducing Affective Vibe Construction as the strategic response to the collapse of linear storytelling. After diagnosing the failure of traditional narratives in Part I and dissecting its most successful real-world application in Part II, he now turns to the question that actually matters: how do you build a brand when stories no longer hold?
In Part III: The Application of the Affective Vibe Construction Paradigm, Durán reframes the “vibe” not as an abstract cultural mood, but as an operational system—one that can be engineered, scaled, and measured. He outlines the concrete pillars, tools, and metrics required to translate affect into infrastructure, showing how brands can shift from narrative authorship to atmospheric architecture.
This chapter serves as a strategic manual for the post-narrative era: a blueprint for marketers who must abandon chapters and start shipping frequencies. In an economy governed by scroll velocity and emotional synchronization, Durán argues, the future belongs to those who stop telling stories—and start hosting belief systems.

Is Storytelling Dead? The Rise of the ‘Vibe’ Narrative Construction
PART III: The how: Application of the Affective Vibe Construction Narrative Paradigm
INTRODUCTION: From Observation to Operation
Welcome to the final chapter. In Part I, we tore down the facade of linear storytelling and exposed the “Vibe” as the new operating system of the digital age. In Part II, we watched A24 wield this system to turn a film studio into a global identity marker. We have seen the “what” and the “why.” Now, we face the “how.”
It is easy to admire the “vibe” from a distance, to treat it as some mystical artistic accident. It is not. It is an engineering problem. It is a series of deliberate, operational choices that can be replicated, measured, and scaled. If you are still trying to sell a “beginning, middle, and end” to a generation that thinks in three-second bursts of dopamine, you aren’t a marketer; you’re a museum curator. The future belongs to the architects of the Affective Vibe Construction (AVC). It’s time to stop writing chapters and start coding frequencies. Here is your manual.
1. Operationalizing the Vibe: The Blueprint for the Post-Narrative Era
We are moving from Chapters to Chips. The modular identity system isn’t about “less” content; it’s about Velocity. If your brand can’t stand alone in a single, three-second “chip” of video, it doesn’t exist. We are pivoting from B2C (Business-to-Consumer) to B2C (Belief-to-Community). You aren’t selling a product; you’re selling a mirror.
1.2. Application of the Affective Vibe Construction Narrative: The Six Pillars of the AVC Framework:
A. Aesthetic Signature (Visual Fluency): Automate, Don’t deliberate.
Stop “approving” designs. Automate them. In the old model, brand consistency was maintained by a brand manager with a red pen. In the AVC model, consistency is maintained by systems. You need to build a “Design System” that is so rigid in its parameters yet so flexible in its output that a junior editor or an AI tool can generate assets without breaking the spell.
- Operational Execution: Create a “Vibe Vault” of pre-approved LUTs (color grading), specific lighting temperatures, and rhythmic sound palettes. Move from “Guidelines” (PDFs nobody reads) to “Toolkits” (presets that are plug-and-play). Your aesthetic must be a reflex, not a decision. If your signature style isn’t recognizable in a blurred thumbnail, it’s not strong enough.
B. Emotional Tonality (Affective Logic): The Single Frequency Rule.
Pick an emotion. Just one. Every piece of content must vibrate at that exact frequency. Traditional brands try to be “fun” on Friday, “serious” on Monday, and “inspirational” on Wednesday. This is schizophrenia, not strategy.
- Operational Execution: Define your “Frequency Anchor.” Every piece of content must pass the “gut test” against this one word (e.g., “Anxiety,” “Euphoria,” “Nostalgia”). Audit your last 20 posts; if any post creates emotional dissonance—even if it performs well—it is damaging the long-term neural pathway you are building. Repetition is the only tool that creates a collective feeling.
C. Materiality and Texture (Conceptual Fluency): The Sensory Layer.
Luxury is a tactile feeling. Use negative space and lighting like a weapon. In a digital world, we crave the “real.” This means your content cannot look like a vector file; it must look like it exists in the physical world.
- Operational Execution: Focus on “Sensory Anchoring.” Incorporate high-fidelity ASMR, strategic shadows, and film grain. Avoid “flat” design. Your content should feel like it has “weight” and “temperature.” When a user scrolls, the visual texture should signal the brand’s value before they even process the text.
D. Velocity and Iteration (Flow): The Agile Vibe.
Adopt “Vibe Coding.” Stop the six-month campaign cycles. The internet moves faster than your approval chain. By the time your “perfect” campaign launches, the culture has moved on.
- Operational Execution: Decentralize content creation. Empower small “Cell Teams” to shoot, edit, and post within 24 hours based on the “Vibe Code.” Use the algorithm as your real-time Creative Director. If a specific “fragment” of the vibe gets high engagement, instantly iterate on that specific visual or sonic motif. Shift from “Production Houses” to “Content Laboratories.”
E. Authenticity and Relatability:
The brand is the host, not the star. Use the community to validate the vibe. A micro-influencer’s bedroom is more credible than a $5M studio set.
- Operational Execution: Find the best suitable way to relinquish control of the brand message creation allowing power users, fans and followers (or other creative allies) to multiply with their own voice but with the firm aesthetic guidance, self expressions of the brand. Findem, curate them and showcase them as extra pieces of your vibe flow.
F. Contextual Intent Mapping:
Know where their head is. A YouTube Short isn’t a TV ad; it’s a lifestyle intervention. Map the vibe to the moment, not the medium.
- Operational Execution: Channel strategy remains a need. The channel dictates the way the expression is consumed ergo the curation and vigilance of where and how the “vibe” is being perceived is fundamental. Make sure you give each channel and format air in the way the creators and consumers understand it and take advantage of this variety.
1.3. Application of the Affective Vibe Construction Narrative, Measuring the Ghost: Affective ROI (A-ROI)
If you’re still measuring “Completion Rates,” you’re measuring the wrong century. Nobody “completes” anything anymore. We need to measure A-ROI (Affective Return on Investment). The three metrics I propose: Sentiment Intensity: Are they just watching, or are they syncing? Aesthetic Recall: Can they recognize you without your logo? Conversational Depth: Is the comments section a desert, or a laboratory of identity?:
A. Sentiment Intensity
The Question: Are they just watching, or are they syncing? The Goal: Measure “Emotional Contagion” and the degree to which the audience adopts the brand’s frequency as their own.
- Firm Metric: UGC Audio-Visual Adoption Rate. * In the AVC paradigm, the ultimate “sync” is when a user takes your brand’s “signal” (a specific sound bite, a visual filter, or a rhythmic pacing) and uses it to frame their own life.
- Calculation: (Total User-Generated Content using brand-original audio/filters) ÷ (Total Reach of original asset).
- Proxy: The “Vibe-Check” Sentiment Shift. * Traditional sentiment analysis looks for “Good vs. Bad.” A-ROI looks for “Adjective Alignment.”
- Calculation: Use AI linguistic tools to map the top 10 adjectives used by the audience in response to a post. If your intended vibe is “Unsettling” and 70% of user comments use words like eerie, clinical, or cold, your Sentiment Intensity is high.
- Proxy: Re-watch/Loop Velocity. * Since nobody “completes” a story, we look for “fixation.”
- Calculation: (Total Plays – Unique Reach) ÷ Unique Reach. A high “Loop Factor” indicates the viewer is dwelling in the atmosphere, not just consuming the information.
B. Aesthetic Recall
The Question: Can they recognize you without your logo? The Goal: Measure the strength of your “Visual Fluency” and “Aesthetic Signature.”
- Firm Metric: De-branded Recognition Testing (Blind Testing). * This is the “Pepsi Challenge” for the vibe era.
- Method: Show a focus group/community sample a 3-second “chip” of content with all logos and product names blurred.
- KPI: % of respondents who correctly identify the brand based solely on color grading, lighting temperature, or typography.
- Proxy: “Vibe-Alike” Algorithm Attribution. * Method: Use a secondary “ghost” account on Instagram or TikTok. Feed the algorithm only your brand’s visual content.
- KPI: See what the algorithm suggests next (the “Recommended for You” section). If the algorithm serves your content alongside luxury houses or specific art movements rather than direct competitors, your aesthetic recall has successfully transcended your category.
- Proxy: Asset Screenshot/Save Rate. * People save “information” for utility; they save “aesthetics” for inspiration (mood boarding).
- KPI: (Saves ÷ Reach) vs. (Shares ÷ Reach). A higher Save-to-Share ratio often indicates the content is being banked as an “Aesthetic Reference,” proving the visual signature is sticky.
C. Conversational Depth
The Question: Is the comments section a desert, or a laboratory of identity? The Goal: Measure “Participatory Dialogue” and whether the audience is using the brand to “Vibe-Code” their own identity.
- Firm Metric: The “I” to “It” Ratio. * In a desert (low depth), people talk about the product (“It”). In a laboratory (high depth), people talk about themselves (“I/Me”).
- Calculation: (Comments containing first-person pronouns + personal anecdotes) ÷ (Total Comments).
- Winning Signal: If a comment says “This is exactly how my Sunday feels,” you have achieved Conversational Depth.
- Proxy: Intra-Community Thread Length. * Measure the degree to which fans are talking to each other in your comments rather than at the brand.
- KPI: Average number of replies per top-level comment. High intra-community dialogue proves the brand has hosted a “cohesive movement” rather than just broadcasting a message.
- Proxy: Identity Tagging. * Method: Count the frequency of “Mood,” “Core,” or “Vibe” mentions in the comments (e.g., “This is so [Brand]-core”).
- KPI: High frequency of these terms indicates the audience has moved from “consuming a story” to “categorizing an identity.” They are doing the work of defining the brand’s boundaries for you.
Conclusion: The Strategic Imperative
Traditional storytelling is a luxury of a slower age. In the chaotic, post-narrative landscape of 2025, fragmentation isn’t a problem to be solved; it’s an environment to be exploited. The shift to Affective Vibe Construction is mandatory. The “Vibe” is the only thing that scales. It is the only thing that travels faster than the scroll.
For the leaders in the room: Cede the narrative. Stop trying to be the author and start being the architect of the atmosphere. The luxury sector has already shown us the path. They don’t tell you who they are; they show you a world and let you find yourself in it. Brands that master AVC will stop being companies and start being cultural movements.
The choice is simple: Orchestrate the vibe, or become the background noise of someone else’s signal. The debate is over. The scroll continues.
