Senior Manager, Business Development

Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Business Development leads the enterprise’s new business efforts focused on the Mexican National Team, including its annual US Tour matches.  In addition, the role supports annual revenue goals for all SUM properties including: Major League Soccer, U.S. Soccer, and CONCACAF.

Primary Responsibilities

Meet or exceed annual revenue goals for the Mexican National Team property and the Business Development team’s greater responsibilities for other SUM properties: including, but not limited to Major League Soccer, U.S. Soccer, CONCACAF across a variety of platforms (sponsorship, digital, broadcast, etc.)
Take a team sales approach and collaborate with department counterparts to close new business and achieve collective goals
Develop deep, meaningful relationships with national decision makers at brands that lead to long-term partnerships
Build and deliver strategic sales presentations catered to senior-level executives at prospective clients and agencies
Negotiate sponsorship deals with support from management
Manage relationships with partner agencies in the support of SUM’s new business efforts
Build annual sales plans, and collaborate with internal stakeholders and applicable members of the Mexican National Team property to identify and capitalize on new opportunities
Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees
Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:

Plan, monitor, and review performance;
Coach and counsel employees;
Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies

Develop personal growth opportunities for employees

Additional Responsibilities

Develop a deep understanding of the domestic and international soccer landscape to aid in the sales process
Understand company dynamics and in-house capabilities to uncover integrated opportunities that also benefit other departments of the company
Support Business Development management in other business-related efforts
Additional responsibilities as assigned

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree
5-8+ years of experience selling complex, integrated marketing rights and media platforms

Required Skills

Proven track record of meeting/exceeding sales goals

Ability to take a client through the entire sales funnel, from lead generation to closing
Existing brand contacts at national level and agency relationships
Ability to navigate and collaborate with counterparts in other functional areas including Partnership Marketing, Property and Commercial Development, Integrated Media, Legal, etc.
Self-starter, but team player with the ability to work against both aggressive individual and department sales goals
Superior business, presentation, and negotiating skills

High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally

Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Desired Skills:

Knowledge of the Spanish Language (business proficiency)
Knowledge of the sport of soccer
Understanding of multicultural/US Hispanic marketing and advertising trends
