Vocento, a Spanish newspaper and ma-gazine publisher, is partnering with magazine publishing giant Gruner und Jahr (G+J) to launch Gala this autumn. The magazine is to be produced in Spain in a 50/50 joint venture. The goal for Gala is to reach an average circulation of 200,000 copies in Spain. Gala, a womens magazine, is already being published by G+J in Germany, France, Russia and Poland. G+J already publishes women's magazines Mia and Marie Claire in the Spanish market. The German publishers last launch in Spain was the home improvement magazine Living at Home, which was launched last May. Media buyers in Spain have stated that they are interested in additions to the womens magazine category.
Vocento has a strong distribution network for periodicals in Spain. Besides Spain, Vocento has interests in Latin America, where it owns regional newspapers in Argentina. G+J, owned by German multimedia group Bertelsmann, is one of the largest magazine publishers worldwide. It publishes consumer magazines in the US and in Latin America.
