Portada has learned that Sports Illustrated Latino has inked a deal with Impremedia to produce a sports-focused quarterly publication this fall. However, instead of focusing on “futbol,” the new publication will instead set its sites on American football, which has grown wildly popular among Hispanics in recent years.
“We are right now in the planning stages of doing a four-issue custom publication about professional football in conjunction with Impremedia,” says SI Latino National Sales Manager Michelle Castro. “It will be called SI Latino with the word ‘Football’ embossed on the cover over the word ‘Latino,’” adds Castro.
The two companies have agreed on a two-year deal that would produce a total of eight issues. One issue will be published prior to the NFL season, two will be published during the season, and one will be published after the Super Bowl.
“We’ve had some serious interest expressed by Ford and other advertisers,” says Castro. At present, SI Latino is promoting the venture strictly through word-of-mouth.
SI Latino Football will be written by SI Latino staff and will be distributed nationally through Impremedia’s newspaper network. Each 12-18 page issue will have a run of 1 million copies.
