The New York Times is currently speaking with various ethnic media publications in the in the U.S. about distributing an 8-page insert of the venerable paper in these publications.
The paper recently etched a deal with The Korea Times for that paper to carry a Korean-language version of the insert in its pages.
Gloria Anderson, VP, International & Editorial Development at The Times, tells Portada “We are currently in conversations with several ethnic media outlets, though we have not opened conversations with any Hispanic media.” Anderson did say that the company hopes to have its Hispanic product launched by the end of ’09 though she said it was not a sure thing given the current economic climate.
“We’ve worked out the format with our publishing partners and try to avoid customization as much as possible. The product is a turn-key solution whereby these papers can access the content from an FTP site.” Anderson adds that pricing is determined on a case by case basis.
Advertising into the supplement’s pages is handled either by the ethnic paper or by The Times’ own staff.
The paper currently publishes a Spanish-language insert in various Latin American publications.
