Meredith Abandons Child, Keeps its Niños

Hispanic parenting magazines remain, while Child magazine folds and goes online.

After slashing sixty jobs from various reaches of the company, Meredith announced that it is discontinuing Child as a print publication, and incorporating it into a new web portal on Parenting. It acquired Child from Gruner + Jahr along with Spanish-language parenting publication Ser Padres in 2005.

However, unlike Child, Ser Padres continues to do well and will remain a print entity for the foreseeable future, according to sources inside the company. Meredith is also considering the inclusion of its Spanish-language content in the soon-to-be-launched portal, but right now their digital expansion is focused on their general market content.

Besides Ser Padres, Meredith also publishes Spanish-language parenting magazines Espera, 12 Meses, and Healthy Kids en español. These magazines will remain unaffected by Child’s restructuring.
