L.A.-based Eastern Group Publications (EGP) publishes 10 zoned papers with a weekly circulation of just over 100,000 and a combined reach of 500,000.

The papers are CVC audited, fully bilingual and are distributed door-to-door. The papers have a local community news focus, and offer advertisers a combined buy spanning all ten markets.

EGP gets some national and international news content from EFE America, and distributes essentially the same paper to each zone, with only the front-page changing to maximize local relevance.

Given the chain’s focus on community news, it relies on City News Service, a content provider focusing on Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange counties with 24-hour updated news.

EGP has five full time writers and also gets content from its network of local reporters to maintain its focus on delivering relevant community news. Jonathan Sanchez, Associate Publisher of EGP, tells Portada that relevant local content is key to EGP’s newspaper strong connection with the Los Angeles communities they serve.

Community driven…

EGP offers an extensive Spanish-language section of exclusive stories focusing on news and information about health, education, business, government, community events and entertainment, in addition to information of special interest to the Spanish speaking immigrant population. EGP newspaper’s predominantly English coverage focuses on local politics (city hall, legislative dateline and education scene) as well as the local art, culture and entertainment world with a special section that celebrates international and local talent.  When  it comes to business coverage, EGP covers the local business sector and its impact on the local economy.

Community profiles (local people and places) and community calendars, create a sense of community involvement and excitement, according to EGP’s Jonathan Sanchez.
