After three years of publication, Sports Illustrated Latino, Time Inc.’s Spanish-language edition of the general market sports title is closing its doors.
“Our last issue will publish this December,” a source from Time Inc. tells Portada. “We’ve got advertising locked up for this issue, but not beyond. An official statement should be forthcoming in the next day or so.”
SI Latino relied heavily on automotive advertising and it is likely that automakers’ well-publicized troubles have negatively impacted the publication’s ad-revenues.
In May, the magazine signed a two year deal with Impremedia to produce a quarterly publication covering American football. No word yet on what bearing the shuttering will have on this agreement.
