Breaking News: In an effort to tap into the explosive growth of Mexican middle-class families moving into Texas, Radio Fórmula Mexico, one of the largest radio groups in Mexico, on Monday turned the switch on two local frequencies targeting the San Antonio market. Radio Fórmula Network San Antonio began broadcasting on 102.3 FM from San Antonio and 1500 AM from Boerne, TX.
Under the banner of Radio Fórmula Network, Radio Fórmula Network San Antonio offers a mix of Radio Fórmula's most popular Mexican programming with some locally-produced news, commentary and variety shows. The idea is to eventually expand the signal, which is very popular among Mexicans, to other Hispanic markets.
Among the locally produced shows is the one-hour daily "En Pijamas," which premiered Monday (June 20) at 7:00 am, featuring Gabriel Filio, Jorge Infante and Alejandro Vargas-Lugo, who take a humorous –and informed– approach to some of the issues most relevant to U.S. Hispanics.
"We are tapping into the growing community of middle-class Mexicans that in the past two to three years have moved to San Antonio," Vargas-Lugo, told Portada.
The network offers local news and entertainment segments, followed by some of the best known syndicated radio personalities in Mexico, including Maxime Woodside, Ciro Gómez Leyva, Joaquín López Dóriga and Carlos Loret de Mola, among many others.
“We are very excited to bring a format with good content to San Antonio and its growing population of Latino audience,” Alex Hernandez said in a prepared statement, saying the new format brings “radio con personalidad,” or radio with personality to the U.S. Hispanic market.
Another major Mexican Radio Broadcaster, Grupo Radio Centro expanded into the Los Angeles market in 2009.
