Some consolidation for Advertising Agencies.  The Phelps Group, a integrated marketing communications (IMC) agency based in Santa Monica, has acquired two Los Angeles area agencies, Anita Santiago Advertising and Copia Creative, resulting in a 27 percent growth in associates and billings.

 Anita Santiago Advertising  clients include  IKEA, Wells Fargo, California's anti-smoking efforts and UnitedHealthcare.  Copia Creative, a strategic branding agency founded in 2001 by Michelle Adelson, focuses on positioning, corporate identity and packaging for clients including Applied Materials and Crowell Weedon.  

Anita Santiago veterans Francisco Letelier, creative, and Sofia Escamilla, media, will lead the new Hispanic marketing discipline at the agency.  Michelle Adelson and the former Copia Creative personnel will focus their strategic planning talents on The Phelps Group's clients. Matthew Puopolo will continue Copia's business consulting services.

Joe Phelps, chief executive at Phelps. described the deals as “strategic acquisitions” rather than “growth acquisitions” because of the desire to add the capabilities of Santiago and Copia to those of Phelps, the New York Times reports.

The 15 employees of Santiago and Copia have joined the 55 employees at Phelps, bringing the total at Phelps to 70.

The accounts handled by the two acquired agencies, with billings estimated at $15 million, are also migrating to Phelps, bringing billings at Phelps, previously at an estimated $60 million, to an estimated $75 million.
