The San Diego Union-Tribune is teaming up with SanDiegoRed.com, which will serve as the Latino arm for the U-T's website SignOnSanDiego.com and the U-T's Latino-focused publication Enlace, offering expanded advertising opportunities and more robust content.

SanDiegoRed.com is a Spanish-only news and entertainment website headed by a group of publishers with more than 25 years of experience in covering issues of significance to the Latino community. The site is designed to be highly interactive, where users can share their own news items, photos and videos that capture the vibrant lifestyle of the region.

"Latinos make up 31 percent of the population in San Diego County and are an integral part of the fabric of our region," said Mike Hodges, general manager of SignOnSanDiego.com and vice president of interactive for the Union-Tribune.

SanDiegoRed.com will be accessible from SignOnSanDiego.com via a prominently featured tab. Visitors of mienlace.com, the previous website for Enlace, will be directed to SanDiegoRed.com, which will be co-branded. Editorial content may be shared between Enlace and SanDiegoRed.com, and the Union-Tribune. In addition, SignOnSanDiego.com and Enlace advertisers will now benefit from a wider range of advertising and marketing opportunities.

The site presents much more than continuously updated news stories about the San Diego/Tijuana region. Visitors will find a useful guide to entertainment events on both sides of the border, coverage of Mexico's soccer and boxing, and profiles of young athletes. Plus, there will be locally produced videos, colorful photo galleries, and a variety of bloggers, including a gourmet chef who shares favorite Mexican and international recipes on video.

SanDiegoRed.com is a partner of La Jolla-based Busca Corp., which built the website's sophisticated social media platform.

The newspaper has a late week circulation of 260,039, with more than 597,000 daily readers; Sunday circulation is 286,518, with readership of nearly 814,000. The newspaper's website, SignOn SanDiego.co has nearly 27 million page views and more than 3.35 million unique users in a typical month.
