starMedia today announced the launch of its new homepage,, in a major redesign that will improve user experience and advertising effectiveness. Combining a fresh, dynamic design with more Web 2.0 and interactive services, the homepage will give starMedia’s Hispanic audience up-to-date, enjoyable and straightforward online experience.

The new homepage uses a more spacious format so that users can find what they want with a single glance. And it has the addition of new Web 2.0 options, such as a continuously updating scroll of popular video clips and intuitive menus and layouts.

Commenting on the homepage Marta Martinez, Chief Executive Officer, starMedia said “At starMedia we provide our millions of Hispanic users with fast access to relevant local content , an interactive and fun online experience and user-friendly services for sharing information and keeping in touch. The homepage is the single window into all these things and our new layout reflects this; our audience stretches across generations and countries but our innovative homepage design ensures that everyone has an experience that meets their own needs”.

The starMedia homepage menus include one click access to popular channels such as news, finance, automotive, sports, entertainments and students’ channel. There are eye catching buttons for multimedia services, such as photo sharing, social networking and games, plus classic starMedia services such as LatinChat and LatinMail.

The design was developed with the needs of advertisers in mind. The clean and simple layout makes advertising stand out and gives greater opportunity for strong branding. Explaining the approach, Juan Jose Nunez, Chief Operating Officer, starMedia, comments “Our approach is to create unique and memorable campaigns without compromising on visibility and audience click through. This was a key consideration when we were developing the homepage and our research into effectiveness led us to make changes such as removing the top banner and including more 300×250 banners, and simplifying the layout so individual elements stand out. We are confident that our new homepage will improve both click through and engagement”.

The new homepage is the first of a number of content and service changes starMedia will make during 2009.
