There's a new player in the Latin American social network scene and it is growing fast. Pointing to comScore data that shows 150,000 new registrations per month, Sonico claims to be the fastest growing social network in South America. Its user base stands at 17.2 million. The company just received a $4.3 million cash injection from private equity backers.
Advertisers include Coca-Cola, ESPN, Unilever and Latin telecom company Movistar. Currently, about 20% of its traffic comes from Brazil, 20% from Mexico, 14% from Colombia, and 10% from Argentina.
Right now, just 4% of the site's traffic comes from the U.S. In terms of demographics, the site is evenly split between males and females. Age distribution is as follows: *13-17: 19% *18-25: 41% *26-32: 18% *33-40: 12% *41-99: 10% Advertising options include sponsored groups, sponsored new, sponsored skins, and sponsored greeting cards.
