Website giant Marchex recently announced the acquisition of 100 Spanish-language websites (U.S. Hispanic and Latin America), most covering topical interests such as cooking (Cocina.com), Health (salud.com) etc. Fox Latin America will help develop content for the sites, for which Marchex paid a reported $10,000,000.
Marchex’s VP of public relations told Portada, “This is an important step in further extending our international strategy, as it does follow our approach of developing Web sites into high quality destinations which will, over time, build our base of traffic and create highly targeted advertising opportunities. With a combination of the great site names, along with world-class content from Fox, we believe there will be excellent targeting opportunities for advertisers that will accompany the sites further development.”
In June, Marchex plans to re-launch more than 100,000 of its local sites with its Open List content aggregation and publishing engine.
