Long-time public relations and communications executive Jürgen Mainka joined the Red Bulls as the team's vice president of communications and community relations, the team announced on Tuesday.
Mainka, who will begin his new role in the end of February, will oversee the club’s communications department, working with several departments to develop team-wide, long-term public relations goals and strategy.
Mainka joined the Red Bulls after serving as the director of marketing and communications of the USA Bid Committee for the United States’ campaign to bid for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. He managed all marketing, public relations and sponsorship aspects of the bid and developed close relationships with a variety of national and international entities, working in conjunction with FIFA and the 18 candidate host cities.
Mainka also was an account director for Octagon Worldwide from 2007-09, serving as the primary strategic consultant to MasterCard Latin America. He helped manage and negotiate several sports properties in the region, including the CONCACAF Champions League, the CONMEBOL South American qualifiers and Argentine clubs, Boca Juniors and River Plate.
Mainka has worked extensively in MLS, starting as the director of communications of the New England Revolution from 1999-2003 before joining the Colorado Rapids from 2003-07. He also became the founder of his own firm, AyudaFutbol Consulting, in 2005.
