The El Paso Times has launched a new Spanish website, SomosFrontera.com, which aims to cover the news in the borderland region, with emphasizes on Ciudad Juárez and on the Juarenses living in El Paso. Written in Spanish, SomosFrontera's commitment is to reflect with accuracy and objectivity the complexity of the border region and the strong economic and cultural ties between Juarez and El Paso. Lourdes Cardenas is the El Paso Times Spanish Language Editor, overseeing SomosFrontera.com.
When Sergio Salinas assumed his new position as publisher of El Paso Times last year he told Portada that his “Goal is to be the Preeminent Voice of the Border in the Regional Market". Salinas is also the CEO of the Texas-New Mexico Newspaper Partnership, a joint venture formed in 2003 between MediaNews Group and Gannett which manages El Paso Times, Las Cruces Sun-News, Silver City Sun-News, Alamogordo Daily News, Deming Headlight, Carlsbad Current Argus, Ruidoso News and Farmington Daily Times.
