Michael Vinales has joined the Tribune company serving as advertising sales manager for Spanish-language weekly El Sentinel in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale/W. Palm Beach market. “Celebrating our 10th anniversary later this fall, El Sentinel will continue to grow our audience and advertising base in print and online,” Vinales tells Portada. El Sentinel has a weekly circulation of 125,000.    

Global Recruiters of Calabasas, an executive recruiting firm in the advertising industry, has hired Anita Rubio as Search Consultant to expand its Hispanic recruiting resources. Anita comes with over 20 years experience in the creative arena.  She started her career in Mexico City working for several clients including Procter & Gamble and Frito Lay before moving to Southern California.  Here she rose to the rank of VP/Creative Director at Noble & Asociados (now DDB), managing clients such as Kraft General Foods, Procter and Gamble, Denny’s Restaurants and Disney. “Our placements are equally split between Hispanic and General Market ad agencies,” says Tony Stanol, Global Recruiters of Calabasas President and owner.    

Juan Carlos Sosa has been promoted to Vice President of Marketing & Business Development at the Cisneros Group of Companies, reporting directly to the Group’s President & COO, Miguel Dvorak.  Before his current appointment, Mr. Sosa held the position of Director of Marketing & Communications of Venevision International, a global entertainment company of the Cisneros Group. “It’s an honor to be able to give merit to those who have earned it, especially when it’s someone who has been part of our family, the Cisneros Group, through the years; in this case, I am happy to bestow on Juan Carlos this great commitment,” stated Dvorak, explaining that in Sosa’s new role, he will be responsible for supporting Adriana Cisneros de Griffin, Vice Chairman & Vice President of Strategy of the Cisneros Group of Companies, in the development of corporate business plans and global strategic policies.

Former Mexican Foreign Minister Jorge Castañeda joins NBC and Telemundo as Latin American Policy Analyst. Starting this month, he will contribute reports to Telemundo, NBC News and MSNBC shows, as well as on-line platforms

Phillip Mena starts his new job as weekend anchor/reporter at KPRC-2, the NBC affiliate in Houston on April 23. He recently left his anchor/reporter job at KTSM-9, the NBC-affiliate in El Paso, where he had been working since 2010.

Alejandro Mendoza is the new co-anchor of “Primera Edición,” on KMEX-34, alongside Gabriela Teissier. He replaces Francisco Pinto, who left the station earlier this year. Alejandro comes to Univision’s O&O in Los Angeles from KDTV-14 in San Francisco, where he has been 6 and 11 pm anchor since 2008.
