Chris Emme, until recently Senior Account Director at Yahoo en Español, is the new Sales Director East Coast at Gwallet, a start up that is a 3rd Generation ad network that uses relevant social connections to target users who fit the custom demo of gwallet’s advertisers. Emme tells Portada that gwallet’s technology is general market but will have the capability to target U.S. Hispanic consumers very soon. Gwallet describes itself as the leading virtual currency platform for social media developers. 

Rowena Alegria is the new publisher of Viva Colorado, the free Spanish-language weekly launched in 2006, which is owned by Denver-based Media News Group, which also publishes Spanish-language weekly Impacto USA (Orange County, CA) and major metropolitan dailies like the Denver Post. Alegria will also continue to have the position of editor of Viva Colorado. As publisher of Viva Colorado, Alegria substitutes Pete Casillas who had been named to the position in April of this year. In another development affecting Viva Colorado, Jim Diaz, who before Casillas was the publisher of Viva Colorado as part of his duties of president of President at Metro Mountain Media (MediaNews Group), left Media News Group in August to become CEO and president of Colorado Community Newspapers. Colorado Community Newspapers publishes 13 community newspapers in the region from South Metro Denver to the mountains west of Colorado Springs. 

Julian Posada is the new president of MLS club Chicago Fire. Posada founded Café Media in October 2008 (see related article here), the publisher of a Lifestyle magazine CaféPosada tells Portada that he will be the on the Board/Publisher of Café Media “as we look for my replacement.” targeting English-dominant Hispanics.

The Miami Herald announced that it is eliminating 49 jobs, including seven full-time newsroom employees. In a memo to staffers, President and Publisher David Landsberg also said the paper was requiring employee to take a second unpaid furlough this year. “The positions include an assignment editor, a copy editor, a designer, a position in the library, a photographer, an online editor, and two positions in the wireroom,” he wrote. “This means we will reorganize how the wireroom operates. Four open positions will not be filled. The staff of El Nuevo Herald will be reduced by 4.5 positions, and the editorial page staff by 20 hours as part of a change in how we do production.”

Discovery Networks Latin America / US Hispanics has appointed Paula Carreiro as Communications Specialist. Carreiro will report to Carla Conde, Communications Director.

The Hispanic Technology and Telecommunications Partnership (HTTP), has  announced the appointment of Jason Llorenz, Esq. as Executive Director.  Prior to assuming this role with HTTP, Mr. Llorenz served as Senior Policy Advisor to the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators.
