José Antonio Martínez Soler (63), founder and CEO of Multiprensa y Mas, publisher of free daily Spanish newspaper 20 Minutos, will step down as CEO October 1, in mutual agreement with Sverre Munck, the President of 20 Minutos España and Executive Vice President of Schibsted, the Norwegian media multinational that owns Multiprensa y Mas.  Martinez Soler’s position will be filled by Eduardo Diez-Hochleitner, current non executive Vice President of 20 Minutos España.  Martinez Soler will continue to be linked to the media group as board member until his retirement.

“Under the management of Martinez Soler, 20 minutos became the most widely read newspaper in Spain barely 4 years after it’s launching, a unique achievement in the history of the press.  For me it has been a privilege to work together almost 10 years with an enterprising executive of his caliber, and I am very pleased that he continues to be linked to Grupo Schibsted,” Sverre Munck declared.  “The new chief executive, Eduardo Díez-Hochleitner, is very familiar both with the company and with the Spanish press sector.  I am sure that he, together with the editorial director, Arsenio Escolar, who represents continuity, will give new impulse to 20 minutos for it’s development with even more force in the Spanish media sector.”

The new CEO of 20 minutos, Díez-Hochleitner (55), has a degree in Economic Sciences in the Autonomous University of Madrid and an MBA at IESE.  He began his professional career in the banking sector, working for Dresdner Bank in Germany and, during 9 years, for BNP in Spain and in France.  Later he joined Grupo Prisa (publishers of El Pais) where he was the Director General until 2001.  In 2002, he joined the private equity fund Apax Partners as partner until 2007.  Since then, he has balanced being Vice President of 20 minutos España with the presidency of Bodaclick and Canalmail and with the position of board member of Infojobs and Mas Movil.
