Discovery Communications will give Discovery Channel chief Rich Ross added responsibilities.Ross will now become group president of Discovery Channel, as well as another big Discovery Networks revenue generator, Animal Planet, and Science Channel. Ross was named president of Discovery Channel in October 2014.

Upon the appointment of a new CEO, Scott N. Schneider, currently Lead Director of the Company’s Board of Directors, will succeed Mr. Hall as Chairman of the Board and Mr. Hall will continue in a 24-month consulting role as an advisor to the Board and CEO to facilitate a seamless transition and consult on other business matters.

In this role, she will be responsible for the overall performance of the Telemundo 39 news department and any other local productions across multiple media platforms. Thomas’ first day with Telemundo 39 will be August 17.Thomas joins Telemundo 39 after launching her broadcast and journalism career in 1985 and holding various newsroom positions with increasing responsibility at both the national and local level. She returns to Telemundo after working as the network’s Mexico Bureau Chief in 1993 and as the News Director for Telemundo 52 Los Angeles / KVEA from 1994 to 1997. Most recently, Thomas worked as Senior Director of Local and Affiliate News and as the Regional News Director for Northern California Stations for the Univision Station Group from 2009 to 2013.

She was previously VP, corporate strategy & business development at Time Warner Cable, where she also served as VP, investor relations. Prior to that, she was an equity research analyst, holding executive positions at Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers and Donaldson and Lufkin & Jenrette.
