Opera Mediaworks buys Hunt Mobile, expands into the Latin world

Mobile advertising platform Opera Mediaworks, part of Norway’s Opera Software, is acquiring Hunt Mobile Ads, a Buenos Aires Argentina headquartered mobile advertising company with presence in Latin America (Mexico City, San Jose, Costa Rica; Bogota, Colombia; and Sao Paulo, Brazil)and in the U.S. Hispanic market (Miami). The amount of the transaction has not been disclosed.

Grupo Cerca launches ¡Hola! in six Central American countries — Interview with M.Burman, CEO and President of Group Cerca

¡Hola! magazine has arrived in Central America through a licensing agreement with Grupo Cerca. As of November, the monthly magazine is now publishing a local edition in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala. Rdio to launch In 20 new countries

Streaming music provider Rdio has launched its services in 20 new countries, reaching 51 new different international markets. The new countries in that group of 20 include much of Latin America, as well as parts of Europe and Africa.

Argentina’s Globant to hold IPO in first quarter of 2014

The Buenos Aires-based technology-services provider Globant SA (GLOB) is planning to hold its initial public offering early next year.
The company will be selling shares on the New York Stock Exchange during first quarter of 2014. Globant is expecting to raise US $86.3 million in the IPO.

Analysis: Argentina’s “Media Law” and how it will affect Grupo Clarin

Last week, the Argentina Supreme Court ruled in favor of the constitutionality of the Audiovisual Communication Services Law (LSCA) 26522/09, known as the “Media Law”. The new law that regulates the country’s broadcasting services was passed four years ago. Since then, Grupo Clarin has been challenging the law’s constitutionality in the courts, claiming it suppresses freedom of the press and affects the group’s economic sustainability.
