Mazda North American Operations has announced the appointment of Dino Bernacchi to the newly created role of Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for the company’s U.S. operations. Based at the company’s Irvine, Calif. Headquarters office, Bernacchi will report to MNAO president and CEO, as well as Mazda Motor Company’s global CMO, Masahiro Moro. Bernacchi’s appointment is effective on May 1, 2017. In this new role, Bernacchi will oversee all aspects of brand communications for Mazda in the U.S. Specifically, he will be tasked with examining every touch point that affects a customer’s interaction with Mazda. His responsibility will be more than conventional marketing, and Russell Wager, currently VP, Marketing, who will report to Bernacchi, will continue to oversee Mazda’s external communications activities.
The Telemundo Station Group has announced that Sabrina Lopez has been named Vice President of Sales for Telemundo 20 San Diego. Lopez will be responsible for developing and implementing all local, national and sales strategies across all Telemundo 20 station platforms. She will report to Richard Kelley, President and General Manager of Telemundo 20 and NBC 7 San Diego / KNSD. Her first day in San Diego will be June 1.Lopez joins Telemundo 20’s team after working for Telemundo 47 as WNJU’s sales manager and business development director for the past three years.
Angel Colón has been promoted to senior director of diversity at The Kroger Co. He has been serving as the company’s director of multicultural development for merchandising since 2008.Mr. Colon succeeds Rueben Shaffer, who retired at the end of March, as Kroger’s head of diversity. Mr. Colón joined Kroger in 2008.
BARÚ has hired Jeremy Epstein as its new Associate Digital Director. Mr. Epstein brings his senior skills in general market digital campaigns and media plans for major brands in entertainment, sports and retail, including AMC Networks, Hulu, the NBA, Apple Music, Expedia Inc., Bluefly and Uber.Jeremy Epstein was previously with Fetch, a division of Dentsu, in New York, serving as Mobile Strategy and Innovation Manager. Epstein will helm the digital team at BARÚ, which includes Media Planner/Buyer Rosalva Orozco and Senior Social Strategist Heather McDonald. Mr. Epstein will immediately begin overseeing digital strategy for some of BARÚ’s top accounts, including Treasury Wine Estates, Del Real Foods, Warner Brothers and Focus Features.
Karlin Linhardt has been appointed senior VP of marketing for North America at Subway. Lindhardt was previously a senior consultant at Accenture Interactive, where he worked on digital strategy for the Subway account. Prior to that he was VP of partnerships at Merkle, strategic administrator at digital video network InStadium, senior VP at Lifetouch, executive VP of marketing at Ovation Brands and senior director, marketing at McDonald's.
The Telemundo Station Group announced Telemundo 20 San Diego’s new news team. Lizzet Lopez and Guadalupe Venegas have been named news anchors and both will be joined by weather anchor Ana Cristina Sanchez, sports anchor MJ Acosta and a team of multimedia journalists that includes Leticia Estrada, Lisette Martinez, Anlleyn Venegas and Rigo Villalobos. The news team will make its on-air debut on Monday, July 3, 2017.
Lopez is an experienced news anchor who has worked in local broadcasting for nearly a decade. She joins the Telemundo 20 team after working at various television and radio stations in the United States and Mexico, including Univision 45 Houston / KXLN, UniMás KHFT 67 and TV Azteca Zacatecas.
Venegas joins Telemundo 20 after working for Telemundo Network for nearly a decade in various on-air capacities including host, reporter and anchor for Telemundo’s national entertainment, sports and news programs including Al Rojo Vivo. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Spanish Arts from San Diego State University.
Richfield, Minn.-based retailer Best Buy is restructuring its marketing team. The company has parted ways with three top marketing executives and is marketing responsibilities into merchandising.Best Buy's former Chief Marketing Officer Greg Revelle and Mary Lou Kelley, president of e-commerce, have both left the company. Tom Nowak, Best Buy less electronic brand's first-ever chief creative officer, has also left.
The new department is headed by Mike Mohan, Best Buy's chief merchandising officer, who also now handles marketing.
Senior marketing executive Whit Alexander was promoted to the CMO role, but he reports to Mohan.
