What: Cisneros Media and Turner Broadcasting System Latin America, Inc. have formed a strategic alliance to exploit their common interests and assets in Latin America.
Why it matters: The two media enterprises are seeking to leverage their experience driving a TV content strategy through Glitz, a Turner Latin America Pay-TV channel, fully focused on Latin American women.

GLITZ-450x276Cisneros Media, the corporate division encompassing the Cisneros’ media and entertainment businesses around the world, and multi-media group Turner Broadcasting System Latin America, Inc. announced a strategic alliance to exploit their common interests and assets in Latin America.

The partnership was announced during the NAPTE 2015 conference, which ended this past Thursday.

Through this deal,  Cisneros Media will oversee the operations, programming and content licensing for the Spanish-language feeds of Turner Latin America’s Pay TV channel Glitz*, which are broadcasted to 19 million households throughout Latin America with a compelling offering geared towards the ever-growing C demographic, where women have a decisive role in the selection of television programming.

Glitz* will have exclusive rights to air Cisneros’ original programing, including a combination of new productions like “¿Quién Tiene la Razón?,” “Casos de Familia,” and “El Palenque,” in addition to its telenovelas and teleseries.  With the content, distribution and promotional support to become an audience leader among women, Glitz* will complement a world-class portfolio of Pay TV networks that includes global brands like TNT, CNN and Cartoon Network.

Targeting the coveted female demographic in Latin America, the partnership builds on Turner Latin America’s strength as a leading operator of Pay TV channels, while banking on Cisneros Media’s proficiencies in developing, producing and programming telenovelas, talk shows and other genres traditionally associated with Broadcast TV.

“Pay TV has become a vehicle with truly massive reach in Latin America, and it must be able to serve a broad audience cutting across all segments,” said Juan Carlos Urdaneta, President of Turner Broadcasting System Latin America.  “This agreement brings together Turner’s capabilities to manage Pay TV channels at a regional scale with Cisneros’ expertise in creating content with mass appeal.”

“We are committed to taking Glitz* to greater heights by creating and establishing comprehensive strategies to increase and expand its audience throughout Latin America,” stated Jonathan Blum, President of Cisneros Media.  “We will leverage our vast catalogue of proven content, which has been successful in attracting and captivating Latin women across the region, in addition to select products from third-party providers, as well as original programming catered to the female demographic.”
