Friday Abernethy has been appointed Univision Communications Inc.´s senior vice president, Content Distribution. She will be based in New York and report to Sarah Madigan. She will be in charge of distributing the Company’s linear networks, cable portfolio as well as a suite of targeted Spanish-language cable networks. She will also manage UCI’s digital offerings . Prior to joining UCI, Abernethy worked for TV Guide Network, MTV Networks and GE Capital. She is a graduate of Denison University.
Alberto Mier y Terán was named executive vice president of Univision Television Group (UTG). He will continue as general manager of KMEX-TV Univision 34 and KFTR-TV UniMás 46 in Los Angeles,reason why he will remain in that city and report to Kevin Cuddihy, president of UTG. He has been part of Univision for more than ten years. He previously worked for WGBO Univision and WXFT UniMas in Chicago, KBNT Univision and KDTF UniMas , Entravision Communications,among others. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in business communication from Augustana College.
David Duckenfield, President of Balsera Communications, has been appointed deputy assistant secretary for Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of State beginning May 5, 2014.In this new role, he will lead the State Department’s public liaison and domestic outreach efforts as well as its intergovernmental functions and the U.S. Diplomacy Center. He will also assist the Bureau of Public Affairs . He has been a partner at Balsera Communications since 2007. Prior to Joining Balsera Communications, he worked for Yahoo! from 2000-07 and managed the National Basketball Association’s communications Latin America and the U.S Hispanic market outreach from 1996-2000.He began his career as a Foreign Service Officer for the United States Information Agency .He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and Dartmouth College.He will be taking a leave of absence from Balsera Communications duties during his appointment.
Three new members were named to The Associated Press board of directors and an incumbent re-elected at AP’s annual meeting today at its New York headquarters. Isaac Lee, president of news for Univision Communications, Inc., a leading Spanish-language media company and Rob King, senior vice president of SportsCenter and News for ESPN, were appointed by the board as new directors. Re-elected to fill his final year on the board was Jon Rust, publisher of the Southeast Missourian and co-president of Rust Communications, a family-owned media company based in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The company has 19 daily and 30 weekly newspapers as well as partial ownership in 17 radio stations. Rust serves as vice chair of the board. Bill Hoffman, president of Cox Media Group, was also newly elected to the board. The Cox Media Group operates 14 TV stations, 57 radio stations, eight daily newspapers and more than a dozen nondaily publications. It is a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises. Based in Atlanta, CMG also operates more than 100 digital services as well as Cox Reps, which sells local advertising across platforms.
