What? Facebook will launch a similar new ‘trending’ feature to that found on Twitter.
Why it matters? Currently, it is only available on desktops but it is likely to make its move to mobiles if effective.
Facebook will launch a similar new ‘trending’ feature to that found on Twitter. It will appear in the top right hand corner of the website highlighting certain topics which users are talking about.
So far, it is only available on desktops but it is likely to make its move to mobiles if effective.
According to Facebook the list will be “personalized” and be “based on things you’re interested in and what is trending across Facebook overall”.
This will be the third time that the social networking has met inspiration from Twitter, as It previously introduced hashtags to let users tag topics and embeddable posts – two features originally started by Twitter.
“Each topic is accompanied by a headline that briefly explains why it is trending. You can click on any headline to see the most interesting posts from your friends or Pages that are talking about that particular topic,” said Facebook in a blog post announcing the feature.
However, Facebook has tried to make the feature different to the trends on Twitter, saying: “Each topic is accompanied by a headline that briefly explains why it is trending. You can click on any headline to see the most interesting posts from your friends or pages that are talking about that particular topic.”
