According to last Cofetel announcements Mexico’s telecommunications sector grew 9.5% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2013. According to the study, The expansion was mainly driven by the satellite and cable TV segments, which saw above average growth of 17.8% and 13.6% respectively, and mobile telephony, which expanded 13.1%.

TV

Satellite TV remains the most popular pay TV segment in Mexico with 7.3mn subscribers, followed by cable TV with 6.9mn.

Mobile

Mobile traffic, measured in minutes, rose 13.1% during the quarter, while mobile subscribers were up 5.1% year-on-year to 103mn at end-June, for a penetration rate of 86.7%. Subscriber growth continues to slow, reflecting the gradual stabilization of mobile consumption, according to BNAmericas.

Mobile broadband connections reached 49.7% in the 12 months to end-June, for a total of 14.5mn connections.
