For those still trying to figure out how much advertisers will spend on social media in the next few years, it might be worth taking a look at the latest BI Intelligence Report, which quotes several studies and forecasts painting a bright future for social media advertising.
In a new report, BI Intelligence analyzes the state of social media advertising and where it is heading. Citing several sources and forecasts, it offers a sneak peak into the advertising ecosystems on Facebook and Twitter, and a look on Tumblr as an emerging ad medium.
The report includes the findings of a recent study by BIA/Kelsey that forecasts $11 billion of social ad spend in 2017, up from $4.7 billion in 2012. Yet, as a young, emerging market, social media advertising only represents between 1% to 10% of ad budgets for a wide majority of advertisers.
Another area to watch: Mobile.
According to the report, both Twitter and Facebook have passed the 50% mobile usage mark and mobile is estimated to have accounted for 11% of Facebook’s ad revenue last year.
