Steve Swartz will succeed Frank Bennack as CEO of Hearst Corporation on June 1. Swartz is currently president and COO of Hearst. Bennack will continue as executive vice chairman of the Hearst board of directors and chairman of the executive committee. Swartz has been with Hearst for more than 20 years and was named COO in March 2011. He added the president title in December 2012. Prior to that, he was senior VP of the corporation and president of Hearst’s newspaper division. Bennack has been with Hearst for more than 50 years, assuming the CEO role in 1979. He relinquished the CEO post in 2002, only to reclaim it in 2008.

Claudia Varela was recently appointed as Director of Consumer Engagement at VSBrooks Advertising. Previously Varela worked as Media Services Director at Accentmarketing.

Jorge Mercado has been appointed as new Consumer Connections Director of  Alma. Mercado had previously worked for Prisa Digital and Terra Networks. Mercado will be in charge of the media planning. Jorge MercadoAccording to the agency a  Consumer Connections Director is a “media planning mixmaster; someone who stays  on top of content trends across platforms (traditional, viral, retail,  entertainment) and aligns the media planning strategy to maximum effect.” Mercado will be in charge of the media planning.

 

 

 

Arbitron has promoted Monica Narvaez to Hispanic Broadcaster Account Specialist. In this newly created role, She will focus on further strengthening the partnerships Arbitron maintains with its Hispanic broadcasting customers. Her new responsibilities include to promote the power of Spanish-language radio. Generating solutions address Hispanic Radio group needs. Developing programs for Spanish radio group training initiatives. Narvaez has been at Arbitron for 10 years, specializes in providing Hispanic media insights and training for Spanish-language radio broadcasters.

Univision has promoted Monica Talan to EVP of corporate communications and PR, the Spanish-language Monica Talanbroadcaster announced . Talan, based in New York, reports to Randy Falco. She was previously senior VP in charge of corporate communications and PR. Before joining Univision in 2008, Talan was at Fleishman-Hillard for more than 10 years.

Communications has upped David Beck to the role of senior VP of social media.Based in New York, Beck will be reporting to Cesar Conde, the president of Univision Networks. Beck joined the company in 2009 and most recently served as the VP of strategic initiatives in the office of the CEO. Univision has been delivering record-breaking social media efforts across its platforms. The company was even a big winner at the Latin Social TV Awards, taking home wins in eight categories.
