Chris McDonnel was named president and general manager of WSNS Chicago, a Telemundo owned station. He will manage all aspects of the station’s operations, including sales, where he will oversee the development and implementation of strategic sales and marketing plans. McDonnell was most recently VP, sales and marketing at NBC’s KXAS affiliate in Dallas-Fort Worth, a position he held beginning in 2009. Prior to that he was VP of sales and marketing for NBC’s San Diego affiliate KNSD.

Leslie Smith is a new Director of Sales at ImpreMedia’s Los Angeles newspaper La Opinion, where she will be managing Local advertising. Previously Smith worked at New American Dimensions and prior to that in El Clasificado

Univision Communications announced the appointment of Jesus Chavez to senior vice president of Interactive for Univision Television Group (UTG). He will continue to be based in Dallas and will report to Kevin Cuddihy, president of UTG.

CNN announced that Spanish journalist Ana Pastor will join the network’s team of contributors and will conduct interviews with important Spanish and international personalities from the fields of politics, arts and culture, and sports. Cynthia Hudson, senior vice president and general manager for CNN en Español and Hispanic strategy for CNN/US, said: “It is a great opportunity to have a journalist of Ana’s stature and experience join our team. We will, without a doubt, continue to strengthen our brand and relevance in Spain and the Spanish-speaking world with interviews and reports that enhance our brand and global reach.”

The Hartford Courant has hired a part-time local editor, Marysol Saldana-Knipper, who will assist in translating Courant-produced stories into Spanish. The Courant also recently launched Mi Comunidad, produced by Courant Photojournalist Patrick Raycraft. Mi Comunidad is a multimedia news package highlighting stories from Hartford’s  Latino community. Patrick is fluent in Spanish and his stories will be appear regularly on Noticias. The Hartford Courant has abandoned its previous Spanish-language site, which ran the Courant’s content through Google Translate, Poynter reports. Noticias runs some wire copy, and it will provide Spanish content from Tribune’s Spanish papers in Florida and Chicago, Weitman says.

Favio Ucedo, until recently Creative Director of Los Angeles based Grupo Gallegos has left the agency.
