Sports Marketing: Univision grabs Chivas de Guadalajara Rights

Univision Deportes announced that it will become the U.S. home of Chivas de Guadalajara, one of the most popular soccer teams in the United States and Mexico. The multi-year deal is effective July 2013 and includes all languages and platforms. This agreement will grant Univision Deportes the rights to all of Chivas’ Liga MX, Copa Mexico and worldwide friendlies across all platforms.

In addition to Chivas, Univision holds exclusive U.S. media rights to the home games of Toluca, Pumas de la UNAM, Monterrey, Tigres de la UANL, América, Pachuca,Tijuana, Santos, San Luis, Queretaro, Atlas and Atlante, plus away games for the rest of the league’s teams.

Other right holders for Mexican soccer include Soccer United Marketing (SUM), the marketing arm of  Major League Soccer. SUM has exclusive TV rights for all matches played by the Mexican National Team in the U.S. For matches played by the Mexican National team outside of the U.S. the right owners is Interticket USA.
